Based Netflixs taking turns pissing on the history of every North African country.
Can’t wait for COLUMBUS , starring Michael B. Jordan
Tunisians have every right to object to cultural erasure. The problem is that Hollywood are such unoriginal frauds they can’t come up with any historical movies about black figures from history. Where’s the Frederick Douglass movie, or Mansa Musa, or the Queen of Sheba movie with Oscar Isaac co-starring as King Solomon?
Wait… I always thought that Hannibal was a Carthaginian i.e. Greek people that left the area and conquered that area of Africa? Plus, didn’t Hannibal grow up in Barcelona, you know the city that, legend has it, is named after Hannibals father Hamilcar Barca? A city filled with Iberians, i.e. people who most likely looked closer to a tanned Colin Farell than Denzel Washington?
So, if they wanted to be accurate, wouldn’t hiring Elias Koteas, or Dave Bautista be a better choice?
Edit: I don’t want to suggest that Denzel wouldn’t be an awesome Hannibal because that dude could probably play anybody and have it be believable. It’s just their reasoning that’s a little sus and casting a black dude for the role completely changes the dynamic of what was actually happening during that conflict.
While I’m bot surprised a Le Monde article is in French, I think the headline should also be in French so those who cannot read French don’t click on it.
Hannibal will be played by a black dude that’s almost 70? What’s up with Hollywood’s weird obsession with black people and casting them in everything, even at the expense of others’ representation? It doesn’t help that Hollywood is filled with black celebs that are narcissistic too. They’re like the “Karens” of black people.
If they want to tell black stories why not focus on the history of sub Saharan Africa?
