Austria Floats Schengen Expansion for Air Travel, Kurier Says

  1. This is more of an insult to injury rather than a change. Austria agrees to allow us into Schengen only for airports and wants more Frontex personnel at the Bulgarian-Turkish border, more controls at the Hungarian-Romanian and Romanian-Bulgarian one. Plus we need to accept migrants from dear Austria because obviously, Schengen is about sharing migrants. Of course, no date for opening the land borders.

Basically, this means no change and even more controls at the land border of Romania/Bulgaria/Hungary, contrary to what Schengen is about. We are pushed further from Schengen because land borders are the most important and the queues for transporting goods are for trucks, not for airplanes. Air transport for goods is almost nonexistent as it is very expensive.

I am afraid that our idiot politicians in power will accept this trap in their quest for votes in the next election. They will certainly try to present this as proof that they got us into Schengen.

Hopefully, the deal will fail. I would rather be out of Schengen than with this charade. Austria can keep its migrants for all I care.

  2. The whole deal is an abject blackmail.

Given Schengen on the air borders while Romania is flooded with Afghans and Syrians that never came through Romania in Austria. And the terrestrial border will be even more strict (the opposite of Schengen deal) and the accession of Romania and Bulgaria will be postponed Ad calendas graecas.

I think Austria came with with shameless package to make Romania and Bulgaria refuse then say: **Look, it is not the fault of Austria, Ro and Bg refused the deal!**

The offer is the typical behaviour of the EU toward Romania (and Bulgaria): blackmail, unacceptable conditions and denial of rights.

  3. Austria doesnt get to make up the rules themselves and can go fuck off. Rather not be in Schengen than have this dogshit russian puppet country dictate what our country needs to do.

Seems pretty similar with Turkey denying Sweeden NATO and comming up with dumber and dumber requests.

  4. Karner thinks he cannot walk back on this issue because it would be perfect fuel for the FPÖ, so now he came up with this stupid half-assed “compromise” that will make no one happy. I feel so bad for Romania and Bulgaria who are basically being held hostage by our stupid internal politics.

  5. Dust in the eyes!

    A Romanian saying.

How about they GTFO fro our country with their Schweighofer Holzindustrie, OMW and Raiffeisenbank?

Thanks for the deforestation and bear killing Austria!

  6. I hope someone in RO and/or BG blocks this shit. This is unacceptable and just shows that there is no equality in the EU. Austria can shove it’s deal in the ass and just veto us. We should open our borders between GR, BG and RO and just deal with that. What are the EU and AU gonna do? Send an Army? It is obvious that Europe needs another war and turmoil before it understands that this is not the way to create an Union.

  7. Are the dutch cool with this?

Not like we are the only ones against schengen expansion

  8. This is not Schengen Expansion, this deal is complete bullshit and insulting on so many levels.

They’re hoping people will swallow this ‘compromise’ as reasonable, take the spotlight off the subject so that people forget, and Romania and Bulgaria will be again left outside for the next 10 years.

One of their conditions for this deal to happen is for Romania and Bulgaria to ‘take responsibility’ for the illegal immigrants that arrived in Austria from these countries. So basically, to legitimize the complete and utter horseshit that the Austrian Gov’s been spewing since the veto. How… Putinesque…

Facts are simple: Criteria has been met since forever, Schengen expansion is not blocked – it has already happed with Croatia, in full, not just ‘air borders’, Ro & Bg are not main transit countries. Everything else are just lies and demagoguery from a pretty dubious government.

  9. Get fucked Austria! I give this European “Union” shit at most 10-15 years until it turns belly up.

  10. Austrian politician wants to open camps in Eastern Europe, we’ve seen that before and we said no in 1940, we’ll say it again. Keep your undesirables to yourself.

Air schengen, imagine… A simple “No” would’ve done it, you dick breath. I and many others have made their mind, we’ll vote for whoever promises blackmail and extortion against the EU. Fuck you and your schengen.

  11. One thing is to veto based on false narratives, discrimination or whatever. Entirely different beast is to purposely gaslight.

  12. This deal it too generous. Look at the foul language Romanians in this thread are using. They know exactly what is happening in their country.

We need harder borders on the outside before we rip down more borders on the inside.

  13. AT and NL can eat a lot of kurec. Given how Schengen are fucking up their border controls it will fail before we enter

  14. Well let’s accept the deal and then every refugee sent here let’s drop them by plane on Nerhammer’s doorstep, no more air borders to stop us. Who else is chipping in for the private jet? /s

  15. Honest question, does Romanians/bulgarians on any moment believed or had faith on the European project? Or did they just wanted to join because the economical opportunities that in theory it brings (open market, EU grants and subsidies, FEDER funds for infrastructure, for agriculture, feee movement so people can travel easily and even relocate into another part of the EU…?)

This is not a criticism, just honest question, I don’t know what Romanians/bulgarians from the streets think or have thought in the recent past.

What I have seen from some people on Western Europe critiques Eastern Europe, is that those countries on the east only see the EU as a piggy bank money maker and that they don’t want or believe in a more united EU or culture or whatever, meaning that the end of the EU will be one day because the inclusion of this countries (more so when they stop receiving so much help and need to start to make compromises or put money).

    Some examples: Hungary, Poland

I’m not for this argument, I’m only saying why I ask the question, just to know and be better informed, to see both sides and have a better understanding (please, don’t downvote just because, if you can help to understand, comment)

    Thanks!

  16. Air travel without documents will make almost no difference. You just have to show your id card for a few seconds. The main benefit of Schengen is easier trade without land borders.

Also, what is even the point of the internal land borders if people can travel on a plane without documents? Anyone that wants to go to Austria will just fly there and won’t bother with land borders.
