  1. > James Cleverly made a similar threat as foreign secretary after Mr Yousaf met the Icelandic prime minister in August, again without UK diplomats.

    > However a UK government source said this latest intervention represents and “escalation” over the issue and the foreign secretary wishes to take a “harder line” approach than Mr Cleverly.

  2. >”We will also need to consider the presence of Scottish government offices in UK government posts.”

A big dose of ‘Back in your box Scotland’.

  3. > The first minister posted on X, formerly Twitter, that he had discussed the climate crisis and the Israel-Gaza conflict with Mr Erdogan and the Lebanese prime minister during their meeting on 1 December.

    > He said he had called for an immediate ceasefire in the region. The BBC understands this contradiction of the UK government position has caused particular concern in the foreign office.

  4. >Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel has “the most moral army in the world”.

    Are they aye?

  5. Yeah I mean, the criticism of Yousaf for meeting Erdogan in itself was embarrassing. Of course he should meet world leaders, even ones he disagrees with.

International diplomacy is a complex beast. In this case though it looks like protocol hasn’t been followed – I’m not sure whether or not it’s valid to have that protocol, but if you knowingly go against it, rightly or wrongly, there will be some noise.

    A nothing story really.

  6. As disgusting as that article is in its tone reporting a back handed slap down to a countries elected leader, to finish on a quote from Netanyahu, who all the Westminster parties support, about how nice the IDF is sums up the bare faced revulsion the establishment from London feels for Scottish democracy.

None of this is about who Yousaf shook hands with over diplomatic niceties at a conference filled with European and world leaders. This is a get back in yer box jock rebuke that would never happen if it was a tory or Labour FM.

When are people in this country going to learn that Westminster rule, and it’s abysmal UK wide contempt for its citizens, sees devolution as a limited power embarrassment to them and will be constantly traduced and attacked, even with made up boundaries and rules, for daring to not heel to the master.

I can’t wait for Starmers premiership. Let’s see if his foreign secretary shows that same level of high handed spite for daring to represent our country abroad.

Either wake up or keep our lowly heads bowed to our betters who clearly despise our democratic consensus and political will.

  7. Erdoğan has that “Who the fuck is this?” stare in those photos with Yousaf.

  8. Wouldn’t trust a Tory to represent Scotland abroad!

Would be quite happy if we did start to develop our own offices and contacts – so threaten away.

  9. Middle East is home affairs to the first minister. The London mayor would be out there too if he could get away with it.

  10. this is typical storm in a teacup stuff. but you can bet that if the UKG was getting involved in devolved areas the SG would do its nut. right or wrong, at the moment foreign policy is a reserved matter.

  11. Humza Useless is purposely trying to cause a fight with the UK Government.

This is pathetic from the SNP.

  12. “A spokesperson for Mr Yousaf said a UK official was invited to the meeting”

  13. Yousaf chummy with dictator Erdogan because he is a fellow Muslim. The absolute worst kind of politics. SNP supporters deny reality because ‘fuck the Tories’

  14. Thread is full of usual throbbers economic performance is all Scot govs fault, scot gov discusses trade links foreign policy is reserved. Dammed if you do dammed if you dont. Erdogan thinks Israel current war is a shit show may well have raised it with Humza as a way to apply pressure to UK gov. What’s Humza gonna say I’m not allowed to discuss it.
