  1. The words after “Government has ‘no vision'” are unnecessary

  2. Conservative governments are typically aligned with the same positions as big oil, and climate change deniers, so that’s not very surprising.

  3. I find this hard to believe after they’ve been so on top of everything else for these past 13 years.

  4. I mean. I work in Flood risk management and climate change adaptation.

They literally have no plan for conventional flooding. Not to mention climate change events. There’s no real guidance or policy that is in any way useful. It’s just down to how organised local authorities and emergency services are at working together and coordinating. There’s no contingency anyone can call on. No one even has budget spare to try and stockpile equipment etc.

Pro tip: if there’s severe widespread flooding. Make sure you don’t have a medical emergency, your wait time for medical attention is over doubled on average.

Also don’t have a house fire. Fire brigade response times are at least 4 times more.

  5. Climate Change is a rather knotty problem for democracy. It’s too gradual for an election cycle until it really, really isn’t, by which time it’s far too late to do anything about it. Rather than taking the threat seriously both the Tories and Labour are instead hand wringing over solutions because they’re ‘electorally unpopular’ and the two-party system practically ensures this deadlock will never, ever break.

A ‘vision’ for extreme weather events will get drafted eventually, doubtless when things are beyond rescuing. In 20-25 years when the food starts running out and some local water war goes mildly nuclear or one of the panic-built deregulated fission reactors goes critical, when things really, really start going down the toilet, a ‘vision’ of some kind will be hastily put in place. And by then it will make no difference at all.

  6. lol this government barely has a vision for tomorrow let alone 10-20yrs in the future.

they just want to loot as much from the sinking ship as they can before it goes down.

  7. Ridiculous. These are the strong and stable lot! They’ve got everything figured out and sometimes that requires letting several thousands of us die, but it’s a sacrifice they’re willing to make for the greater good.

  8. They’re all too busy buying shares in Salt, Grit, Sand and British Gas. That’s their plans, get rich.

  9. They’ve got a vision alright.. you just ain’t in it.
