It’s up Drumgoff in the Wicklow mountains I’d just love to know what the story is,it could just be the pattern the sheep are eating the grass but lets have a little fun

If you look at the area on google maps, it does look like the footprint of buildings joined by paths. The pattern seems literally regimental: I wonder if it is the remnants of a military camp and not a settlement.

Would have thought they must be quite recent to still be visible.
Peat beds maybe?
Whatever it is, it wasn’t there before 2020 going by historic mapping.
Erosion mitigation, possibly. If you can slow down surface water it will carry less of the mountain with it.
Have a look at page 2 here:

I believe it’s clearing the heather to encourage ground nesting birds.
Vikings filming of some kind?
Bad enough with crop circles without them dam Aliens messing with our hills as well.
Heather burning, to improve the area for Grouse.
Might have been where the UFOs that dropped off the Healy Rae’s landed?
During the bronze age far more land was under the plow because farming was so much more inefficient. Ireland’s upland bogs aren’t a natural environment. Naturally they should be covered in hardwood forests(in wicklow the altitude isn’t high enough for a treeline). Bronze age farmers cleared the land for pasture, which was then abandoned as lowland farming became more efficient. Some of the markings on the land are as a result of this. Although as others have said there are also potential modern explanations for some of the markings, such as clearing space to encourage wildlife, turf cutting and subsidence of the land
Farmers destroying the countryside.
Landing pads for the spaceships to take us all to Tir Na nOg.
Looks like spots wear Heather and Gorse was burned out. It encourages fresh growth and attracts Cearc fraoigh aka Red Grouse for hunting
