  1. From reporter Luis Chaparro:

At least 14 people were killed in a fight between members of a drug gang and local villagers last week after residents fought back against extortion demands, according to the Mexican authorities.

“We basically had no choice but to die fighting or die from hunger,” the residents told VICE News.

  2. “Can you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men!….”

  3. Oh Cartel members, you shouldn’t bring machetes to a farmer fight.

  4. It’s time for a remake of the magnificent 7. The d.i.y. version.

  5. Respect to these farmers and their families. Farming is not easy. Cartels make it even harder. This community made a decision unfathomable to most in this community and knew that lives would be lost for it. But they chose to do so anyway for the sake of their families. Dios está con ustedes hermanos.

  6. Put their heads on stakes so when the next round of cartel come around, you set the tone. Giving them a taste of their own medicine.

  7. I hope they have some guns for when the cartel inevitably returns or else I fear for the safety of these people

  8. >Commander Clown, one of the victims of the confrontation, had long been in the crosshairs of law enforcement. “[He} was a main target for us for his role in the criminal organization. We had several investigations ongoing to go after him,” said Andrés Andrade, chief of police of Mexico State.

    What is that name.

  9. COMMANDER CLOWN?

How did this not warrant further exploration in the piece?

  10. I hope these farmers are being protected. This could easily become a massacre

  11. Commander Clown, one of the victims of the confrontation, had long been on **speed-dial** of law enforcement. “[He} was a **good friend to** us for his role in the criminal organization. We had several **arrangements** ongoing **with** him,” said Andrés Andrade, chief of police of Mexico State.

  12. balls of steel- the working man has always been the tough guy

  13. >“We told the Mexican army that this was going to happen because we were not going to pay anymore. We asked for their back up and no-one showed up,” the farmer told VICE News.

Search says Mexicans pay taxes on worldwide income. I wonder what they get for paying their taxes, if they don’t get protection from drug gangs?

In Mexico, citizens pay taxes to the government and provide basic safety and law enforcement services to themselves.

  14. What we learned from the past year or so is you don’t fuck with farmers. In some places they even have tanks now.

  15. And a new cartel was born.

This is roughly how the Mata Zeta came to be.

  16. When you are being extorted for more than you have under threat to your family – you might have to kill a drug dealer.
