At least 14 people were killed in a fight between members of a drug gang and local villagers last week after residents fought back against extortion demands, according to the Mexican authorities.
“We basically had no choice but to die fighting or die from hunger,” the residents told VICE News.

Respect to these farmers and their families. Farming is not easy. Cartels make it even harder. This community made a decision unfathomable to most in this community and knew that lives would be lost for it. But they chose to do so anyway for the sake of their families. Dios está con ustedes hermanos.
Put their heads on stakes so when the next round of cartel come around, you set the tone. Giving them a taste of their own medicine.
I hope this goes well for them.
I hope they have some guns for when the cartel inevitably returns or else I fear for the safety of these people

In Mexico, citizens pay taxes to the government and provide basic safety and law enforcement services to themselves.
What we learned from the past year or so is you don’t fuck with farmers. In some places they even have tanks now.
