  3. I feel that people who complain about us sending money to Ukraine often lack any clear idea as to what we ought to be doing with the money instead. “Spend it on US citizens!” that’s a great sentiment, but it’s meaningless when it’s aimless.

  6. Keeping sending Ukraine our old weapons. We could use newer and fresher ones anyways and it’s not our troops dying to keep the evil empire back.

  7. I have post this in many places, here we go again. It needs to be said even if I get down-voted.

    Pres Biden should “pull a trump”. What does that mean ? Trump diverted money Congress earmarked for Defense to build a border wall. At the time that was considered illegal.

    So the that case ended up in the Supreme Court, the SC said “fine by me”, so it was allowed. At the time, many GOP were concerned in the future a Dem President could declare a Climate Change Emergency and pull funds for that.

    So Biden should divert defense money to Ukraine. At least in this case it could be looked at as kind of defending the US.

  10. There should be a new logical fallacy or paradox for this situation. Dont send weapons because they’re “losing” but they’re “losing” because you’re not sending weapons. Criticize sending weapons because of a failed counteroffensive when the only reason it failed was they didn’t show up fast enough to thwart the building of minefields.

  11. What the American people don’t understand is that we don’t have the luxury of Europeans. We can’t reduce defense spending and trust that some superpower will keep us safe. America is the defender of the free world, and their citizens pay the defense bill.

  17. If we abandon Ukraine in their hour of need, no one will ever trust the US for their security again. Ever. This would 100% guarantee nuclear proliferation in the long term while simultaneously guarantee Russian military expansion across eastern Europe. Putin has gone on record as stating the fall of the USSR was the greatest tragedy in human history; he’s clearly embarked on a mission to reassemble it under his control. He will not stop with Ukraine.

    It is insane that the GOP is playing chicken with this issue. It will be unforgivable but understandable if the world finally loses it’s patience with the US and a massive realignment takes place.

  21. For the people saying no money is being sent. There is monetary aid as well for budgetary loans.

    From US 2022 Oct 2023 is around $26 Billon. Separate program to loan money to buy US military equipment around $ 4.6 Billon.

    EU loan package is around €18 Billon for 2023, €13 Billon has been given so far. Money to help the government run, cover budget Deficits, infrastructure costs.

Month after month, our continuous support also helps Ukraine paying wages and pensions. This swift and flexible assistance is tailored to the needs of the country, and also promotes transformative reforms in Ukraine. Our commitment to stand by Ukraine is unwavering and we will continue playing our part to rebuild a modern and prosperous country.”

    World Bank has given around $38 Billon in loans/support packages.

    IMF estimates Ukraine will need around $3-4 Billon a month in external donations.

  22. Because Americans are broke and have nothing to give. We didn’t have anything to give when the government decided to send billions of our money away for us and cut every program that would benefit us. We sure as shit have fucking nothing now.

  24. It should be noted that much of the equipment the US has supplied was very close to its stale date and was due for decommissioning. The bean counters that run things don’t care how this equipment or asset comes off the books, whether through sale, donation, or decommissioning, just that they come off the books. Most of the money earmarked for Ukraine is actually being used to produce the next generation of weapons which creates jobs and economic activity in America.

  26. it’s not a funding problem but a manufacturing and industrial base thing. most of the equipment given to ukraine are cold war depreciating stockpiles, some are even expired. the problem is however, there’s no commitment to industrial capacity expansion at early stage of the war, causing putin’s bet on a long war of attrition to pay off.

    now that the world sees the u.s. lacks staying power, regional powers have no constraint to take on their own ukraine conquests.
