I purchased what I though was my usual PG Tips Pyramid tea bags. Seemed some Clown at PG tips has decided that without consulting any customers, they have decided to change not only the pyramid bag to a squared one and also changed the formulation.
I tried one yesterday and it was atrocious-they have completely damaged the whole flavor of the tea and it s unrecognizable from the original. I did some research online and it seems that PG tips was diverged from Unliver to become part of Liptons and is owned by private equity CVC Partners who paid 4.5 billion for the group.
Seems to me that they have decided without customer consultation to save some money on production. Changing from the expensive pyramid bags to cheaper squarer ones and changing the formulation of the tea. News articles in the UK say that they have spent £50 million in developing new quick brew -2 minutes-bags because thats what customers wants.
Rubbish , people like their tea the way they like it and it should never change. Corporate greed can be the only reason why someone would be daft enough to change one of Britain’s best loved teas.
My local supermarket is not selling Pyramid bags any more. Amazon prices have already gone up by a lot for the old type. Somebody has already started a [Change.org](https://Change.org) page to get them to change their mind. I have a feeling that this will be a catastrophic mistake by PG Tips.
Let me know if you think they have changed the taste. I would say that I brew my tea in a tea pot. Mug brew/bashers may not notice the difference as much.
