“De cijfers zijn rampzalig”: journalist Christophe Deborsu over de economische toestand van Wallonië

  1. More nuanced talk than the title suggests.

Pointed out: while true that Wallonia is doing very bad economically, what exactly is the logic of decreasing transfers to an area that’s in need of help?

Area doing bad? Let’s take away some resources. That should fix things.

    What… ?

Not pointed out: if you went to Germany and explained our situation, size and rate of transfer, they’d laugh you out of the room at the suggestion that the Flemish would complain about the amount of money going to Wallonia being “too much”.

  2. They blew money on tax cuts for Arcelor Mittal that got away with the money, they are still blowing money on Spa Francorchamps. Di Rupo blew money on extravagant train station that no one asked. Same with la gare des Guillemins.

To clear a misconception, they do not only receive money from Flanders but also from Brussels. Brussels send them 1.2 billion in 2021. Thanks to la Federation Wallonie-Bruxelles. All this when Brussels has her own financial turmoils.

As others said the greatest Wallon problem is it’s politicians. But it’s the same in all of Belgium.

  3. I want to hear the remedies for the illness, not being reminded all the time that the patient is sick. But naming and explaining the corrections to make seem to be very difficult apparently.
