  1. Technically a public holday not a bank holiday.

Good Friday is a bank holiday and not a public holiday, and so isn’t counted as one of the 9 holidays mentioned in the article. Good Friday has no legislation behind it as a day off, hence some companies take it off (as a “company day”) and some don’t.

Still, would be nice to have a couple of extra days.

And because I had to look it up, St. Brigid’s Day is Feb 1st, and is also the festival of Imbolc (the end of Winter and start of Spring), so it’s nice to acknowledge that.

  2. God, the amount of people online saying this violates ‘separation of Church and state’, how to these people manage to survive day to day.

  3. Ye should do it, over here in the US there’s one each in Jan and Feb and it makes the grimness of the first 3 months of the year a lot easier to bear.

  4. Bank Holiday at the start of February would be great, maybe even last Monday of January.

It’s an awful long and dull period from new years to Paddy’s day,be a nice break.

  5. A celebration of the women of Ireland is no bad thing.
Would the preceding evening be a good night for single fellas to go out on the pull ?
