They are bastards for sure. The neck of them, with prices like that. 😐
Jesus
Just boycott CeX.
Overpriced store in every aspect.
To be fair they’re not ones buying up new stock, they’re buying it second hand. Still a rip off obviously
Used to work there and got a shit load of abuse off people over the prices of things. Defo a rip off but the store management don’t decide the prices and aren’t even told as to why they’re such a rip off when asked 🤷🏻♀️
I hate Cex.
How much do they cost brand new? The reason people might pay them is the warranty. If you buy something off a randomer and it breaks in a week’s time you’re kinda fucked. That being said, a warranty shouldn’t cost an additional 50%
Can’t blame them if people are willing to pay that price…
Also, fucking sucks you can’t get gameboy, GBA, or PS1 games, or sell them either. I have to get them shipped in from the UK, but the have it set up so that if you order from the UK site to anywhere outside the UK, it deletes your account and cancels the order. I have to send it to relatives and get them to post it to me, it’s all just a mess.
There aren’t even that many exclusives on this console yet. The PS4 plays almost every game this PS5 can. I get some people want the newest and best thing, but for a lot of gamers the PS4 is more than enough right now. Screw the scalpers.
How does this work with VAT? I would imagine the selling price includes VAT so the profit is much smaller? And the exchequer benefits as we get over 2x the VAT on the 1 PS5?
If you think that’s bad, you should have seen their pre-Christmas pricing.
If anybody is willing to pay that price I’ve no sympathy. Get yourself on an order list at any of the big retailers and you’ll get it eventually.
Who are the idiots that are selling brand new PS5s to them at a €3 loss?
I noticed they have one on sale in the Window in Dun Laoghaire for that price alright. Some shower they are.
Few years ago i needed a ps4 controller, cex was selling a 2nd hand one for £50, a brand new one in argos was £45.
They’re buying them for above market value/RRP at least, which is most unusual.
They encourage scalping too. A few months ago they bought the PS5 for 650 euros second hand and had it on sale for 850 or 950 or so. I saw people in Smyths lined up that got 3 PS5s so I asked them about it and they said they are going straight to CeX with the other 2 and making some extra cash to buy games and controllers lol.
I’d been eyeing up some games from there, had to wait for payday first but they raised the prices of all the games by €10 the day I got paid
It’s a good thing.
* You’re buying from a reputable seller and will get a receipt etc.
* They’re selling at a fairly reasonable price and people can get one from them if they really want it.
* Either they’re sold above RRP or not at all, I’d choose the former.
* They’re being sold to non scalpers thus reducing demand and market value making it easier for people to buy a PS5 in future.
I went in there once to buy an xbox 360 controller for my pc. It was €25 and still covered in bits of crisps. I got a new one from amazon for €17 delivered.
I don’t know how they are still in business.
CEX is such a weird shop – even if you trade something for decent money you’re always better off getting the voucher there but the quality of stuff they have to buy is normally terrible.
I have 100 quid credit to burn there but can’t find any PS4 or ps5 games to save my life about from shit like fifa or madden.
CEX have done a really good job over the years convincing idiots that they’re doing them a favour.
Most useless shower out there.
They were offering €650 in cash for boxed PS5 not even two months ago. Seems like stock is getting a bit better
They don’t give you her monies worth but it’s handy if you want to get rid of something quick
It can be a lot of hassle selling locally and a lot of time wasters
Scalpers are an important part of our economy. It’s their job to make sure that a product is always available during times of scarcity. The little extra we pay to access the scarce good is only a fair premium for all their hard work and the risk they assume. I say fair play to them all. r/Austrianeconomics
Saw Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver for €130 in Cex today, whilst I was buying Singstar ABBA on PS3 for a Euro.
Oh it’s gone down? Was 900 there before Christmas
I bought a boxed Switch from them online just as Lockdown 1 started, and I was so disappointed. It came with more screen scratches than I expected for the “quality”, and chocolate in the controls and vents. Like a fool I paid pretty much the price of it new. But then the great Switch shortage of 2020 was happening, and lo it was worth every penny. Still feel robbed though, STILL FINDING CHOCOLATE IN IT. Robbing bastards, but more fool me.
Former employee here. They tell people their prices are based solely on available stock + rarity, but there is zero excuse for this other than complete greed. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM CEX. EVER.
