I can‘t stop thinking about this cat i found last night..
So i live in a big city and I was away for a week, while i was opening my door, tired and half asleep, i hear meowing behind me and see a cat running towards me. I love cats and my reaction was to play with her.
I did notice that she was dirty but didn’t think a lot about it. After like 5min two women were walking their dog saw us and asked if she was my cat because she has been roaming around for at least 4 days. I got worried about her being lost or something since i noticed that she had a mall injury in her head and under her fur felt like she had hard pimples.
She was the sweetest and wanted to keep her for the night and try to help her. Since it was light at night, my neighbour was very helpful and gave me cat food and cat box and some other necessary things. When my neighbour opened her door, i could see how fluffy her cats were and how bright their white fur was compared to the lost cat.
The cat was very very hungry but wasn’t thin. She was small, my guess was maybe a still young cat. I couldn’t guess if she was really hungry or just greedy for food.
While i left her in the bathroom, i tried to look for the missing cats on the internet but unfortunately couldn’t find her. Everything was closed but found a doctor who was open the next day. It was Sunday. The next morning i woke up, took the cat to the doctor to check if she has a chip and guess what he was closed. I called the number, the doctor answered but couldn’t help me.
I was tired and out of breath since i underestimated the weight of the cat. I don’t own a car.
I called 112 and they showed up with a scan thing but unfortunately they couldn’t find any chip. They told me that all the shelters are overfilled and they don’t accept any animals right now. And that the injury in her head seems to be an old one and that i should let her go and let her find the way home by hersel and that i basically committed a crime but keeping her over night.
I know how strict germans can be with their laws and i got scared. I gave her food one last time and set her free. Now im unsure if i did the right thing. It’s cold outside and the poor cat is out there somewhere. I’m blaming myself for not waiting at least until monday and let a veterinarian check her. 🙁
