I have a Scottish history group .
My fav posts are the macabre , weird and wonderful.
Does anyone know any Scottish historical events / happenings that aren’t that well known and would come under the weird / macabre etc ?
For example – the well of the seven heads
The well of the seven heads , invergarry
Feuding clans have been the cause of a lot of Scotland’s most gruesome history.
But this macabre event was caused by a family murder .
Alasdair and Ranald macdonnell were murdered by their uncle at Keppoch in 1663.
The reprisal was brutal . On the orders of Macdonald of Sleat , he along with his 6 sons were beheaded .
They washed the severed heads in a spring first before being presented to the chief Macdonell of Glengarry at invergarry castle .
The monument now sits near this spring .
At the top is a hand holding a dagger over seven severed heads .
