This is already the second EHIC card which expires to me. Is it normal that they have a 6 months expiration date?? I feel a bit dumb like I am missing something

  1. So I have recently moved here and got my new EHIC branded Lux, which expired after 6 months. I thought the limited duration was due to the fact that I was new. But then I ordered another one and came with the same 6 months validity… Do I really have to ask for a new one every half year or am I missing something? It seems such a waste to me

  2. The longer you’re lux resident, the longer validation card has. Thats due to lot of temporary workers coming in and out of lu.

  3. Gets longer the more you’re here. My first one was only a few months. On my fourth now and it will last for almost 3 years.

  4. Hi, fellow veneto guy here.
As they told you, at the beginning of your residency they will issue the EHIC valid only for a few months after, the first year or so you should get it longer, for instance I here since 2019 andyncurrent EHIC will expire in Aug.2022. As far as I remember it was issued the last summer. By the way it is fairly easy to order a new one from their website.

  5. This is no problem. Happened to me a lot in the beginning of my employment in Lux.
Do yourself a reminder in the calendar. At some point the period will increase to some years.

  6. Oh didn’t know they can expire 😂 (but makes sense thinking about it).

Just checked mine… Expires in 2024 and I have it for so many years that I can’t even remember anymore when I got it. So yes they can last longer…. Other people seem to have explained it already
