Oh no! Will someone please think of the poor developers!
Is that a lot? Gove said 4 billion and this is just 1 billion, is the maths off?
I heard the argument yesturday that this should be the government’s bill to pay. The argument being that the local authority inspect each building after and sign it off, and the goveremt set the original guidance of what can and can’t be used. Building companies were just working within the parameters set by government.
Whats your guys take on that argument?
Genuinely not sure where I stand on this as I’ve not looked deeper than opinions on it so far, would love to hear opposing arguments to that.
I do massively want to stress, this isn’t my opinion above, just a counter argument I’ve listened to.
Edit – thanks to everyone below with the varied responses and opinions / facts! Great to hear a collective set of opinions and discussion
Good for him. It’s taken 2 decades but he’s finally gotten something right.
I’d be a bit pissed off if I was a developer. They donate millions to the tories to get them to look the other way and let them do what they like only for Gove to come out with this bullshit?
I’d be asking for my wallpaper back
Easiest political win he ever had. The evidence has been there for ages, the wrongdoing was plain to see for everyone.
Now go address real national infrastructure issues like petrol firms ripping off motorists and energy companies ripping off the general public.
They made decisions that risked lives. Should make investors question who they invest with. The fact that it’s a small dip is a joke. Those lives are still in danger.
Where the full list of these companies, directors and shareholders that have profited from this ?
Cladding bill to be paid, and I believe there should be some jail time for the owners and those responsible.
