(Note that this post is a reaction culminated over time, not just this particular incident ie. vs. Man City, UCL QF, 22-23)

Regardless if this particular play was offsides or not with Müller, this is just the most recent example of Sane’s consistent failures to convert in big chance opportunities. (Heavy first touches, extra dribbles, poor finishing in both selection and execution)

He’s obviously been absolutely unreal this season overall, and I know he’s had his bouts of low confidence/low morale/being played incorrectly, but I don’t understand how he’s consistently so poor converting fast breaks/counters while his playstyle/skills should literally make these optimal scenarios for him. I don’t mean to disrespect him as he’s currently one of the club’s best players, but I have the same faith in him converting a 1 on 1 as I do in kimmich providing a quality corner.

(Also, respectfully, how the hell have we had 3 different coaches in a row all see Kimmich’s corners and all still choose him as the primary corner man ???? Anyways, different subject, oh well)

Again, no disrespect to either at all. It’s just wild that both of these elite players are constantly put in these big time situations, rarely execute, and still have yet to improve.

Sane’s ability to convert is obviously mainly his own issue to deal with, but how are we still putting Kimmich in the corner??? If you worked at a pizza shop and one of your employees constantly left the pizzas in the oven too long and burnt them, would you keep him on oven duty while he keeps burning pizzas for 3+ more years hoping he’ll figure it out or would you try someone else out?

Yikes, sorry, I got off track.

Back to this play specifically with Leroy; seeing where he receives the ball from Müller and where the defenders are vs. where he ultimately puts the ball is insane from a player of his caliber. Again, if this was a one-off miss it would be dismissible, but this is a very common occurrence and is just the most recent example of something plaguing his game for his entire time at Bayern. His finishing and playmaking is fantastic in full strength scenarios but he turns into 2017-19 Coman when he’s on the break. I don’t understand.

I also want to make it clear that this is not hate at all; Sané is probably my third favorite Bayern player after Müller and Neuer – I just simply don’t understand. It’s like if Steph Curry consistently missed a ton of layups while still hitting threes at ease (for my US basketball fans 🫡(go blazers))

Also, totally different subject; regardless of how much you approve or disapprove of Tuchel, can we address his preference of EMCM over Müller?? He originally said Choupo’s height was the reason he was picked over Thomas (which was BS), then alluded to Müller not being healthy/fit enough to get consistent gametime even with Musiala out (also BS). That preference is insane to me even to start with. In what world is Eric Maxim Choupo Moting starting over Thomas Müller besides for Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern. I like Choupo, but he doesn’t do much of anything that Müller cant, and Muller’s pitch presence is indispensable. Every game he gets more than 16 minutes he’s looked great. He looked fantastic against Stuttgart. I swear Tuchel would play mickael cuisance in front of Müller if he was still around and probably even give him the number 25 while he was at it.

Idk, sorry, I’m ranting – lots of thoughts, lots going on in the soccer world, lots of hope moving forward – cheers to an interesting first half and Prost to a better Rückrunde! 🍻
