Well, that’s what eventually will happen. The question is if we’re ready for that.
We are at the endemic stage.
What is next?
Let’s see what surprise the next (dominant) variant brings us.
Well that s what it is. Oops.. this just in… new deltarom variant is out… next followed closely by bravotangomoron variant. Next primustrondelta then followed closely by mushroom spread with chillies variant. Everyone will have to be locked inside when putting it on ur toast.pfizer has 15 new boosters already ready for shipping. They are just waiting for new variants to catch up…
It has to happen eventually. Covid won’t go away, the huge majority of vaccinated people aren’t hospitalized when they contact Covid (a tiny minority is, nothing can be done about it).
The only reason we STILL treat it differently is because the unvaccinated clog the hospitals. Even if a country has only 4-5% unvaccinated (most countries have WAY more), they will clog the hospitals for years, because no country has a number of ICUs larger than ~0.01% of the population.
So either we have measures for years (not acceptable) or we drop the measures and either accept clogged hospitals or restrict the access of the unvaccinated to public/free healthcare.
There’s not gonna be a magic cure, the virus won’t go away, the cases won’t vanish. Someone’s rights will get supressed to return to normalcy, and I’d rather it’s the unvaccinated people’s rights than all of us (with constant measures and restrictions).
Longterm definitely.
But probably not while omicron is overwhelming hospital systems
Spaniards confirmed antivaxx conspiracy theorists. We should block the entire country from social media.
Tbh i hope this will eventually happen slowly
Maybe we can wait till everybody who wants it, in the EU, has had their booster shot? Because I do not know when I will get a chance myself, maybe wait a bit till everybody is vaccinated if they want to.
Yes please! Can we finally return to normality.
The article refers to COVID-19 as a respiratory desease. It’s not. It spreads via droplets and aerosols, but that’s it. It causes damage everywhere in the body where the cells have ACE2 receptors.
It’s not just common sense, but scientific sense too. It’s time to plan for the future, and it is not reasonable to booster an entire country every three months for eternity, nor is it reasonable to hamper peoples lifes with restrictions forever.
They want their tourists. Then go home and die.
Finally my country does something right.
The truth is this is our life now. It’s been two years and we’d better get used to it at this point. Vaccines+boosters, masks, sanitizers, proper hygiene and life must go on. What’s the alternative? I mean, we had a good run since the 1918 influenza, but epidemics/pandemics are always in the cards. We’ve just been idiots ignoring the risks. With global mobility, international tourism and whatnot it’s been by sheer luck this hasn’t happened sooner.
Almost 8 billion people socializing and interacting with wildlife in every inch of the planet, what did we expect?
Yet here we are still in lockdown here in The Netherlands. (which seems stupid since no one else is doing it)
