To clarify, I personally think that era was much tougher and still he managed to be the best defender, potentially of all time. However, with football becoming much more open and much faster than it used to be, how good do you think he would be?

Seeing as todays game doesn’t value defending as it used to, he would still dominate as a player but maybe wouldn’t get as much PT because his game wasn’t about sprinting box to box and playing crosses at the 6. People call Trent Alexander Arnold a defender and that’s laughable by all measures compared to Maldini.
He is in my book, along with Nesta, Cannovaro, and Baresi, the best defensive players Italy has ever produced.
He’d still be great. The best defender of all time, and also he could get forward when needed which is a big part of today’s game. Complete player who would likely still dominate.
Better than most of defenders playing today. Always remember Nesta, Maldini, Cannavaro are some of the best players ever to play this beautiful game.
The guy is top 3 defenders and top 10 players of all time.
He would be amazing in any era.
Today he wouldn’t be a LB, the role has changed drastically.
So, imho, instead of switching from LB to CB at the end of his career he would’ve been a CB since the beginning.
The role of CB hasn’t changed really that much, in that role he would still be one of the best in the world even today. Imho he would be the undisputed best honestly since in his era there were better defenders than nowadays…
I mean…who are the best today? Van Dijk? Rudiger? De Ligt?
None of these names is really impressive; he would be miles ahed of them.
I’m an Inter fan, and I’m 100% sure he’d still dominate.

Would still be one of best players but LB role has evolved past him. Probably would be a LCB, maybe in a 3 men defense but obv would be great in a 4 atb too
