Eggs, Gas, and Other Prices That Are Actually Deflating. The most recent consumer price index (CPI) report shows promising year-over-year price index drops in some goods and services categories. You may be feeling some welcome relief—in the grocery store, at the gas pump, and more.

  1. I’ll believe it when I see it. Spare me your frivolous reports and acronyms.

  2. I’ve noticed that, and it’s great, but it’s not letting up on other foods. I shop at freaking Winco, like bottom of the barrel prices, and last night my granola cereal was $6, my GF bread was $8, a big jar of Nutella was $10, etc. etc. A year ago, these were the prices I’d expect at a higher end grocery store. There are small markups, too, like .40 more for mustard, etc., and those seem like no big deal on their own, but if you keep your receipts it’s pretty dramatic how much groceries have risen overall.

I shop weekly and I notice increases pretty much every trip.

  3. Doesn’t it kill you the people who shit on the poor and tell you to pull yourself up by your boot straps are the same mouths complaining that gas or eggs aren’t cheap anymore?

  4. What about housing, college loans, and medical? Things that aren’t subsidized by the us gov.

  5. Due to their high supply elasticity, food and energy are poor indicators of broad-market inflation. Core inflation is still at 4% YoY and trending 3.3% annualizing the last 4 months of data.

  6. Is quality going to remain in the sub-basement?

    Because we have noticed… 👀
