What are these wires for on the A5 North of Darmstadt before the exit to 42? They go for about 5km on both side of the road. They are electrified, we never see them used. And we have to know.

  1. Thank God. I thought I would never know. And would leave Germany wondering. It took 3 minutes on Reddit. God Bless Reddit.

  2. If you were paying attention, you would have seen the signs identifying this as the testing area for electric trucks.

  3. The picture is of a “Wechselfeld” (changing field) where one overhead electric cable ends, and another one fluidly begins. Similar cable systems are used nationwide for both “German Rail” (Deutsche Bahn) and for local rail lines and city streetcars that often run along beside normal roads. Somebody mentioned “electrified trucks”, but since I’m not a local and haven’t heard of them before, I can’t confirm that.

  4. Frankfurt I guess. New pilot application for electric trucks to be charged while driving.
