There’s Still Tomorrow, a dramedy about an abused woman in post-WW2 Rome, is a runaway box office hit, grossing more than €30.5 million ($33.4 million) in Italy to date, with 4.49 million tickets sold to Barbie‘s 4.39 million. Cortellesi’s film is the 6th most successful Italian movie of all time.

The comparison to Barbie is particularly interesting because this too is a film about female empowerment against a patriarchic society, which is perhaps not surprising but very telling about the type of films female audiences are seeking out in a time where women’s rights are under attack again.
