  1. Oh no. What day will chik fil a have to do gay conversation therapy?

  2. Why did they ever allow these people in?

The tiny new rest stops are awful compared to what were there before.

  3. I was so surprised when they put them in the rest stops. Who gives all that space to a company that’s closed on Sundays when lots of people are traveling?

  4. Cue the selective outrage from the freedom-of-religion hypocrites who cheered the destruction of the church of satan Christmas decorations

  5. The locations in malls have in their ~~contacts~~ contracts to be open on Sunday. They just pay the fine to stay closed. (Rumor I’ve heard)

  6. The title of this article is deceptive. The bill would require a clause be written into any new or renewing contracts that the business remain open 7 days a week.

That means Chick-fil-A can still close on Sundays until their contract expires in 33 years and then when it’s up for renewal in 2056 they’ll have to either agree to the new terms of vacate.

  7. The writer needs to work on reading comprehension. Here’s the text of the bill (emphasis mine):

    > This legislation will ensure that all **future** contracts for food concessions at transportation facilities owned by the Thruway Authority, as well as the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, will be required to operate seven days a week, with an exclusion to temporary concessions such as farmers markets or local vendors.

  8. I’m glad they let Chick-fil-A open those locations. All businesses should have the same opportunities to lease/purchase retail space that meets their needs.

I’m also glad a law is being passed that ensures that all food service options at rest stops on interstates will be open seven days a week. The purpose of a rest stop… fuck it I’m not finishing that sentence.

Nothing in this law appears to discriminate against the rights afforded to the person of Chick-fil-A (why the fuck are corporations people now?). They are welcome to leave their locations and find a location across the street that is not at a facility built and managed by a government agency.

And yes there appears to be at least one location where the only food options is a Chick-fil-A (I’m serious does Starbucks count?)

  9. Why didn’t they select a nonsectarian restaurant chain?

  10. This thread is an interesting study in the great liberal dilemma:

    1. Fighting the big corporate, capitalist machine by support a company who willingly chooses to give up their profits one day a week thereby giving there employees a day off.

    2. Big scary religion stuff

  11. I’m confident that CFA won’t ever operate on Sundays. The question is, why not make operating 7 days a week table stakes for bidding on spaces in the rest stops? This is a failure by the government and not CFA.

  12. Well, unless they are under a contract to stay in those locations, I’d be willing to bet they will just close them and allow a different fast food chain to take over.

I’m sure Chick Fil A will survive without these rest stops. They’ve survived just fine all these years.

Or they fire up their lawyers and file a discrimination lawsuit as this is clearly targeting them specifically since no other fast food chain closes one day a week. Last time I checked this kind of discrimination is illegal.

  13. Its a slippery slope between rest stop fast food restaurants being open on Sundays and eternal damnation

  14. What I want to know is, who are the “geniuses” who approved Chic Filet in the first place? Everybody knows they are closed Sundays.

  15. Misleading headline. It is absolutely not forcing them to do anything.

  16. I mean yeah, its not like truck drivers stop working on sundays, shit needs to get across the country somehow. If you are gonna put your place of business at a rest stop, be prepared to open at the very least 7 days a week if not 24/7

  17. Well , let’s see what’s more powerful , God, or money

  18. They should just put the Roy Rogers back in like God intended
