The inside is due for a renovation and facelift but the outside just needs some cleaning up and refreshment.
God modern architecture is so bland and boring. Who’s hiring these architects?
It’s weird but beautiful, needs a good clean, bit of work on the inside that’s all,new design is ugly and bland.
They can’t actually go ahead with the plan at this stage can they?
It’s pretty clear that about 90% of people are completely against it.
Do ye’s not have listed buildings down there or what? I’d have thought a beautiful building like that would have some protection over it to stop people turning it in to another soulless eyesore of the future.
So bland. I don’t mind modern, but this has no personality whatsoever.
You would think DCC would be more focused on making efforts for combatting the rife dereliction in the city, rather than destroying one of its nice buildings…
I like it, I like the inside and the outside. I like the weird 3rd floor where I used to buy skags and weird skins from Asha in the 90s. The whole place is such an oddity.
I realise it must be so energy inefficient and the shape of it makes no sense business wise, so I’m not really sure what they can do with the interior in its current form. I have always liked walking around it since it opened when I was a child.
It still gets a lot of footfall, but I think most people are only going to Dunnes.
At the very least they should keep the exterior, the new one depresses me.
The external replacement is genuinely awful and it will be an honest to God scandal if it happens.
The glass facade and dome is so obviously a staple of the centre and the area itself. I am so baffled how any kind of renovation or redesign failed to include the glass dome on top.
I genuinely think if it had some sort of nod to the original shape it would be received a lot more positively.
Like most things these days it was probably designed by spreadsheet
It’s pretty emblematic for me that this becomes a big issue after planning permission is granted, and nothing can be done about it anymore. The process has been going on years.
I’ve never liked the current one. It’s a cluttered mess of conflicting lines.
Why not just build a skyscraper in the city?
One of the funny things about the render (and it’s a very small thing): these sorts of renders normally exaggerate the numbers of people who’ll be walking around. Yet the visualisation shown here is about as quiet as the top of Grafton street ever gets during the day.
In general these sorts of renders exaggerate the number of people who’ll be milling about and show fewer cars than are normally present (often depicting only a few, and generally the cars are small).
Oppressive and demoralizing by design. “Beauty motivates men to greatness”. There was more art and graft in the gas lamps of the 1800’s than today’s “architecture”.

Keep the steels or at least part

Can this not be opposed? Awful
