How big of an impact do you think CO2 removal products will have on the planet?

  1. Depends on how quickly they can get them up and running and how much other companies and philanthropists invest in them. The potential is huge is there’s enough investment and R&D. Let’s hope for the best.

  2. I think there’s a massive potential here because instead of companies buying contracts that allow them to omit CO2, they’ll start buying these products that allow them to completely remove it. This product actually has the potential to create an entirely new market by itself.

  3. I was under the impression that this was just not effective…the scale is too great! It seems like a way for polluters to feel good about themselves without accomplishing much!

  4. Oil producing countries are committing to drilling for more oil, and this co2 capturing tech has no financial incentive. It won’t make any difference at all.

It’s going to be like removing a teaspoon of water from a bath.

  5. Single digit impact at best. 2-3% reduction isn’t nothing but we need at lot of different strategies to save civilization.

  6. Negligible. The delusion to think we can build a larger carbon sink than that of Nature. There is no way to scale up any theoretical removal product to out pace current production, let alone make a dent into the previously released emissions.

  7. Their biggest impact will be to delay phase out of fossil fuels.

  8. I saw a presentation by Exxon to the IEEE stating that best case 10% of CO2 emissions could be captured and sequestered.

  9. I think it’ll encourage greater consumption of polluting products by people who are eager for excuses to do that, while offering minimal amounts of carbon sequestration.

Because that’s what’s happening, and no serious science offers a chance for it to be different.

People want excuses not to change, and this is one of the big ones for them. This is gossip that they want spread around so it feels more relevant to them, as though there’s no smoke without fire. The only thing the gossips don’t trust that idea with is climate change, because it impinges on their enjoyment of unsustainable lifestyles.

That’s why I’ve downvoted this and other gossipy articles.

  10. Negative, because it will justify more investment in oil « wE CaPTuRe cO2 nOw !!! »
