It all makes sense when you see they are just FG style neoliberals hyper capitalists who own bikes and have a superiority complex.
Its not about fixing the problem. Its about feeling like you can fix the problem. And the problem is the poor.
You don’t understand why the Green Party is implementing the most effective policies in reducing carbon emissions?
Agriculture is responsible for 37% of our emissions. You don’t see the problem here and why we have to reduce it?
Please tell me, who is the end consumer of the products that those corporations produce?
Like all politicians they will tell your what ever you want to get in and then it’s get F’d until election time.
Almost all our carbon emissions comes from farming, transport and energy used in the home. For transport most of that is from cars. The Green’s policy actually makes since. Farmers and individuals are mostly to blame.
A lot going on in this but one thing I want to point out is that that “71%” stat is complete bullshit, which should be obvious if you think about it for a second. The way the deeply dishonest people behind that statistic came up with it is that if you, an ordinary worker, fill your car with petrol and generate emissions, they label this as Shell emissions.
This is without even getting into the fact that about half of all global emissions come from state-run utilities. Is Eamon Ryan going to invade China?
Agriculture makes up almost 40% of our emissions and we pay huge fines because of it. We subsidise over 70% of farmers wages in Longford for example. Why can’t we just pay them to stop and save a fortune on EU carbon fines aswell. We can’t just keep paying them to do an unsustainable job that causes us fines and hardship. (And for the farmer about to talk utter shite about Brazilian beef, suck my dingleberry)
You should stop applying global/american stats to a small country like ours, its just not at all true for our country
Goods need to be accurately priced for companies and individuals alike. Otherwise their cost is being subsided by the fact that emissions are free. The vast majority of economists agree carbon taxes are the only viable option.
What I don’t understand is why they are forcing the end of peat harvesting but set up no alternative so I stead peat is being imported from Europe contributing far more cause if transport to climate change than Irish peat was
Also anti nuclear power. The greens are worse than climate deniers, because they actually have influence which leads to shitty policy
I mean I’m not the biggest fan of the greens, If they put as much effort into building housing as they did bike lanes I actually would vote for them. but this is a bit misleading, the companies that produce 71% of emissions if that stat is true, do it for products we use everyday, like petrol, your tv and the steak you’re eating, its a very misleading statistic
Green party could have really made a difference in the transport sector and made their bit of the coalition worth it. But it seems like they’re just letting the status quo continue and even let projects run into the usual delays.
I just love how we can’t make briquettes or cut turf anymore but we can import it on big diesel burning ships
The 71% statistic is really misleading and I say that as an environmentalist. Like yes it is technically true but those companies are producing so much carbon because they are making products that people consume. There’s no way of lowering the carbon emissions of those companies without effecting the consumers.
For example the number 1 carbon emitting company is China Coal. They produce so much carbon because everything from your phone to your frying pan was made in a factory powered by them. (As well as the homes of every single person who works at those factories).
If we wanted to cut down their carbon emissions we would have to do something like impose a carbon tax on all Chinese imports. That would make those products more expensive for us, but that would reduce sales, forcing the manufacturer to either change their power source to a greener alternative or let greener alternative manufacturers to compete.
Carbon tax is levied on fuel. That effects every industry. Carbon taxes can effect ordinary people more if the taxes are not redistributed to normal people, which safe to say in Ireland they aren’t. The issue isn’t carbon tax. The issue is how the tax revenue is spent. Carbon taxes are needed to accelerate and fund our transition from fossil fuels and we are going to be absolutely fucked if we don’t do that quickly.
The Green Party in Ireland is nothing other than a means for some people to capture enough votes from naive voters to get elected TD, etc.
Once elected, the TDs in question push for a ministerial role on the basis that the salary & pension is better.
Each does this knowing that they can make little to no real difference, so they might as well grab as much for themselves as they can.
How many iterations of this bullshit rise & fall & rise again business will occur is anyone’s guess.
But the Greens in Ireland are the party who occupy the space in politics where an actual Green Party should be.
This thread is tiring
The Green Party in the country are idiots..they are the thickest, most moronic fucking spanners in politics.
It’s the only Green Party around the world that’s in a liberal country yet losing support. Imagine that, the world wants green politics and these fucking idiots can’t even grab the low lying fruit to gain support.
Carbon tax is levied on corporations not people. It gets passed onto customers because you can’t punish producers of CO2 without punishing consumers of CO2. It takes two to tango.
Your meme is classic left wing misinformation.
Wow, this post is dumb as fuck.
The Green party are in government 18 months max? majority of the carbon tax increases happened when the Green party wasn’t in government but they get the blame
The decision to close ESB plants was made during FG time in power, nothing to do with the Greens but they get the blame
The list goes on.
The Paris Agreement was signed by all parties, including Sinn Fein and that is one of the main reasons why the government needs to increase carbon tax to try and get alternative fuels pushed into the market.
So far since the green party has got into government they have got a regeneration program in place for the midland bogs which not only is a green initiative but also keeps jobs in the area.
More importantly, something which thousands of people have wanted but none of the governments would implement because ESB networks didn’t want it, they have created a micro generation program which will be implemented. This is a huge plus for home owners who want to move to green technology like solar PV and wind but also the package includes a good deal for farmers who can sell back electricity at the same price as wholesale price.
So all those sheds dotted around Ireland should be filled up with solar panels and very quickly, farmers can get some good money from it,
IM sure everyone is aware of the above
”in this country” – show me a country where it’s different, I curious where on this planet profits are ignored for the general good of the people.
That statistic didn’t include agriculture and did include all emissions caused by the use of products by individuals.
A few questions if anyone can help clear up …
Ireland’s emissions from agriculture encompasses all production including our exports ?
Saudi’s emissions from oil encompasses all production including their exports ?
Ireland’s emissions include usage from oil imports ?
Saudi’s emissions include usage from agriculture imports ?
That’s because this logic is retarded.
“Only [small number] of corporations produce 71% of emissions!! Go after them and leave us alone!”
They produce those emissions supplying the goods and services we use. It’s like saying you can fly to the US emission-free because actually it’s Ryanair doing the polluting, not you. Or that you can get your electricity from coal-fired plants emission-free because it’s not you burning the coal, it’s the energy company.
It’s a stupid point designed to remove any responsibility from individuals and allow them to continue as normal guilt-free.
Pain in the arse is all.
Because the Irish gov can’t really do anything about global emissions and they know it.
They commit to “fighting climate change” at the big Globalist meetings, and that just means “tax the plebs for no effect”
This is the way .
They’re all WEF disciples of Shwabs great reset.
No political party in this country ever wants to tax major corporations at a high rate for fear they’ll up sticks. Look at the Apple case ffs.
