I made a video where I rank, from least favourite to most favourite, the eight cities in Poland I have visited.
(Just my opinion, please don’t take offence!)
My rankings are:
8: Łódź – it’s not that it’s “bad” per se, but I did find it to be a little quiet. I’m not a huge fan of the “long” layout, with the city revolving around Piotrkowska Street
7: Katowice – similar to Łódź but I just preferred the compact layout of Katowice. It felt more “lively” too (perhaps it was just the time of year I went).
6: Gdańsk – I visited in summer 2022. Really nice architecture and great in the summer for a day trip to Sopot Beach. But it felt a little over-touristy in the centre. And since the city is “too small”, it’s hard to escape it. Felt really dead at night too (but I was there midweek, so perhaps this is why)
5: Poznań – Not as over-tourist as Gdańsk, feels more like a “real” city. Not much to do, but I just preferred the vibe. Nice and lively at night during the weekends
4: Lublin – extremely pretty old town. Smaller than the others but I enjoyed the atmosphere. Affordable compared to other polish cities too
3: Wrocław – fantastic old town, lots of vibrance. Lovely and grand old town square, good nightlife.
2: Warsaw – it’s the capital and feels like a “proper” city. I loved the old town and feels like the best “party scene” for those into that
1: Krakow – the most beautiful old town in my opinion. Yes it’s touristy but as soon as you head a few blocks outside the old town you can escape that. Fantastic day trip and cheap food options available
