  1. There needs to be a serious discussion around immigration and it’s needs to be controlled or come the next 10/12 years we’re going to be looking at our Brexit situation with some nationalist party promising all the answers and leaving the EU and deporting everybody. We’re an island we’ve a huge advantage over other nations we should be using it!

  2. Breaking news: Sinn Fein release their daily statement to ride two horses at once.

  3. Helen white the women that left Sinn Fein recently was at fermoy saying that she brought up locals anxieties in her area over this craic and she was suspended for bringing it up. Now Sinn Fein are doing it lmao

  4. Hopefully our politicians wake up and start taking control of the immigration situation before the far-right really starts gaining support. You can look at ancient history or recent history.. high levels of immigration over short periods of time just doesn’t work.

  5. SinnFein are absolutely bricking it at local level and above over immigration. Recently in ballyshannon, a SF td was roared out of a meeting by locals opposed to asylum seekers, all male, in their area.

They can see the tide turning as their working class base go against them. When SF TDs are getting roared out of local meetings in donegal, you know somethings up and Mary Lou and Co will begin to play both sides right up until election because they know many of their base won’t vote for them anymore.

Expect a lot more vague “migrants good but locals are important too” comments from her in the coming year.

  6. There’s two buckets:
    – immigration
    – asylum

    Both should be welcome.

    Both should be separately discussed.

The advantages and moral arguments for both need to be better highlighted and communicated to society.

The myths and misinformation/disinformation around false costs of immigration need to be properly argued and dismissed.

Organised incitement of hatred or violence via social media or other forums needs to be aggressively attacked by law enforcement and government. Punishments need to be severe where violence or serious crime occurs.

Free speech should only be protected to the extent that it does not amount to hatred or violence which is otherwise illegal, and false arguments that society is encroaching on free speech rights which are already restricted for such reasons need to be dismissed more vocally.

Ireland needs to realise it is no longer the 1990s, and a formal plan and set of policies, including the practical aspects of accommodating people, needs to be formalised.

We can’t allow a society where the stabbing of a little girl is responded to by nonsensically destroying infrastructure and instilling fear in an immigrant population who comprise 20% of the population.

Our politicians cannot rationalise and justify the lines of thinking of individuals who seek to remedy ill-perceived societal injustices through fear and destruction.

This is shameful from Mary Lou McDonald and I hope people seriously consider whether the judgement behind a statement like this is indicative of someone who should lead a nation.

  7. I wonder will that tightrope SF are walking on hold until an election.

  8. Hard to play both sides of the field when you don’t know what you’re even playing

  9. With great power comes great responsibility.

    Fingers crossed, lads and ladettes.

  10. “How can I appeal to everybody in one sentence?”

  11. Could not get more populist if they tried.
Noticed as well that they stayed completely quiet on the massive decrease in support for Ukrainians.

  12. SF realizing they missed the boat at last GE and that the whole Norn Iron shtick has run out of road down south. Only problem there is no “bread and butter” party to hoover up the protest vote at FFG incompetence.

  13. “On the basis of population records kept by the official agency Statistics Sweden (SCB), approximately 20% (19.7%) of the Swedish population are foreign-born individuals. Among those convicted of rape and perpetrated rape, the foreign-born account for 47.7% of those convicted — so they are over-represented by a factor of 2.4”

“The Swedish authors themselves state that their conclusions “are in line with previous Swedish studies… [and] are also in line with international studies from, among others, Switzerland, as well as Sweden’s neighbouring countries Norway, Finland and Denmark.”

Just leaving this here. Make of it what you will

  14. Oh look Sinn Féin don’t have a policy position on a controversial topic colour me shocked. I can’t understand how people are so desperate for this shower to get into government, God help Ireland if they ever get into power.

  15. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t really see how this is “playing both sides”

She has effectively said people have valid concerns but arson is not acceptable. What’s controversial about that?

Read the full quotes people. Not the headline.

  16. Have any of the major political parties in Ireland been open about what their opinion is and what policies they plan to follow (should they get into goverement) about any of the big issues right now?

Im really struggling to see what the differences are between FF, FG and SF. They all seem to have the same or no opinion on everything so who to vote for when the time comes 🤷 would actual appreciate any insights people have

  17. Keep wobbling away on top of that fence love, you’re doing great.

  18. There are votes in play over immigration so parties are floating soundbites and comments to see how they will go down. Leo was out the other day saying there needed to be a conversation, Mary Lou and local concerns, I dont think Martin has deviated from we welcome everyone message but they are trying to see where the wind is blowing. The local and EU elections will give a hint on the GE but with SF down in the polls Leo must be tempted to go early but such risk attached to that.

  19. Christ almighty, she must be awful uncomfortable sitting on that fence.

  20. Sinn Fein had my vote last election.

    They lost it.

Now they’re trying hard to get it back.

    Nah, get fucked.
