>Where you have got a situation where you are dependent on a visa and you are then dependent on an employer the possibility for exploitation then increases significantly.
As I mentioned in a different thread, for overseas employees trying to have a sensible life here, they have very little power over their employers because their visas are tied to their employment directly. They can’t really negotiate for better work conditions, or better contracts, let alone strike alongside their colleagues. It’s one of the reasons why employers can pay overseas employees so little.

I’m sure that level of out and out coercion, besides being morally repugnant, will motivate the care workers to provide absolutely world class care. Add another Brexit benefit to the pile, JRM 💪
The model must change: a national reliance on foreign labour to perform certain roles is untenable.
you are idiots if you think this started with brexit. been standard for care hospitality and agriculture for decades.
Since Brexit? Or since way before that when Britain became a services based economy but by services I mean financial services and legal services (for the wealthy) and consultancy services (pointless jobs to keep the best and brightest employed in an office).
Raise tax – asset based wealth tax and use it offset cost of higher wages and improve services
There is no other option
Breaking: Geriatric Droolers get what they vote for
There was a article on this Sub last week about failings of Care Staff not speaking English, because they were new immigrants to this Country.
It was a Immigrant hate shit show of a thread. Blaming the Immigrants rather than the Care Home bosses who where CHOOSING to employ them.
The outrage should be at the Government for allowing the visas to happen. Undercutting our own labour force AND giving the opportunity to the Care Home bosses to abuse those visas and get a bunch of low paid employees from abroad. Employees who are complete unsuitable for the roles, people who don’t want to be Care Home staff and who don’t even speak English.
Once again the big wigs money pigs are fucking everyone else over in the name of profit. They don’t give a shit that our (their) Care Homes are full of staff from Africa and SE Asia, all they care about is that they are cheap and that they are making fat profits.
The social care sector literally relying on slave labour in order to squeeze out profits for the share holders.
British workers wouldn’t stand for this but that doesn’t matter when these criminals can just import desperate and easily exploitable people from overseas.
I dated a Polish woman who came over here before Brexit, and worked in the care sector.
I am friends with a Spanish woman who came over here 10 years ago, and started off working in the care sector.
From their stories, this has always been an issue. They’ve always been treated like dirt.
Potentially it’s even worse now, but it has always been bad seemingly.

Entire thing needs a rethink, tbh.
