If European part of NATO was as strong as USA, then Russia would never announced its claim on West Europe in 2021 year, and attacked Ukraine with strategical direction towards at minimum Moldova and Romania, almost certainly with the desire to restore some sort of Yugoslavia analogue.
I recently saw on Military quote of George C. Marshall general: “*We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle, Our Flag will be recognized throughout the World as a symbol of Freedom on the one hand and of overwhelming force on the other.*” That very good describes the crux of current European situation.
Europeans want Freedom? In the long run, there is no any Freedom without Strength to protect it from others Strength, including and without any Freedom.
The UK doesn’t spend enough given its actual needs and that’s before you consider that it only achieves the figure it does thanks to some clever accounting practices (i.e., including military pensions). Though NATO policies allow for such measures, it’s little more than a sleight of hand.

Not all US defense spending is for NATO/European defense. A big part of that is to protect their interests in the Asia-Pacific region and in the Middle East.
Europeans who whine about the US need to shut the fuck up.
This list doesn’t include the absolute embarrassing anti-NATO countries of southern Ireland, Austria, Switzerland and Sweden either.
