  21. This is a very mainstream view in MENA; weirdly, not even just among Muslims. The ADL has been polling on it for a long time.

    I had an Iranian-American neighbor who had been forced to flee Iran for not being a Muslim, who absolutely hated Islam, and yet was immovably insistent that the Holocaust had been exaggerated, if not fabricated. He also believed that old canard about the Jews being told to stay home on 9/11. Antisemitism is deeply ingrained in many countries in the region.

  22. There are photos of the gas chambers, the concentrations camps/crematoriums, and piles and piles of bones. There are written records of people sent to the processing centers for record keeping purposes and countless personal accounts from that era.

    If the world was divided among people who believed that the Holocaust occurred and those who didn’t, how can anyone who denied the Holocaust gain any credibility whatsoever?

    Is Assad especially stupid? I find that doubtful. And I’m not sure what is scarier, that he knows he is promoting falsehoods or if he doesn’t.

    One of the ways that I have tried to explain to antisemites why being antisemitic is counterproductive is that it allows adversaries to exploit their antisemitism against them. Like damn, I could personally launch a missile into syria and blame Jews and he’d believe it. As long as Assad scapegoats Israel for things that Israel has never done, he assures conflict against his country. And I say this as someone who isn’t an ardent defender of Israel!

    Just by analyzing the United States, antisemites should look around the globe and recognize how islamophobia negatively harmed the political interests of the United States. By making Muslims a bogeyman, the United States was instrumental in weakening global peace movements. So why are they motivated to make the same mistakes in doubling down on antisemitism?
