I’m not one to make the comparison lightly, but when it’s appropriate it should be made.
Trump is a populist right winger of limited intellect and boundless petulance. He has a cult of personality willing to follow him into hell. His fanbase is united by their hatred of people who aren’t them. He and his fans believe they are superior and others must be removed.
The parallels are there. It’s not hyperbole.
It was valid to call him that before he took office
It’s his Brand.
Which brings the question, “Why wouldn’t it be okay to compare Drumf to Hitler”
It’s OK to compare Trump supporters to Nazis.
Fascism comes in different forms and shapes, I put Netanyahu in same category with his coalition partners
It literally doesn’t matter. His supporters would actually vote for Hitler if he was available.

Hitler served in the military in WW1 and did well enough in “the shit” of combat zones to earn a medal. Good luck finding any such service orientation or bravery in Trump, who is arguably much much less of a zealous nationalist than Hitler ever was.
The part that concerns me is the people saying “oh, you’re going to wear out the word ‘fascist’ saying it so much!” are probably 3 more tfg rallies from switching to “you say he’s like Hitler like that’s a _bad_ thing!”

The big issue is that if Trump wasn’t allowed to run for president, but Fox News was able to bring back Hitler from the dead and he got the nomination, half the fucking goddamn country would vote for Hitler just to own the Libs and screw Biden from every bit of bullshit they see on TV and their phones.

I wonder if perhaps media outlets hadn’t been so reluctant to admit to the parallels and Trump’s overt overtures to fascism back in 2016, then we might have avoided even a single term instead of looking at the prospect of a second.
That said, knowing what I know today it’s clear there’s a scarily large percentage of the American population who are indeed fascists and authoritarian.
We have reached the inflection point, the courts have to decide does the constitution mean everything to us or nothing. The gloves are off and we are aware of our fascists enemies intentions. Be careful folks things will get worse before they get better but we can vote like hell and send this little movement into the pages of history and fortify our democracy to ensure it makes it to the next century
My grandparents grew up near Rotterdam during the German occupation. I asked my grandma in early 2016 what she thought of Trump and she said that she had seen it before when she was a child, and that she was too old to deal with what comes but that she feared for other generations. This was almost 8 years ago, and she smelled it the second she saw him speak as a political candidate.
Everyone loves to compare everyone and everything to Hitler, but if ever there was a more accurate comparison, it would be Donald Trump
