At the moment the fuel bills for homes are ridiculous. My home bill has gone up 50% and some of my friends and family are paying 70-100% more. Greedy fuel companies are trying to keep their profits as high rather than not making as much.
It will come to a point where it is will heating or eating.
If you’re living by yourself why does more than 1 room need to be hot?
If she worked as a teacher, she presumably has some kind of public sector pension in addition to her state pension. If she can’t afford to live, there will be many others in an even worse state.
Looks like im getting the firewood out of the garage then.
If you have a smart meter. Do not ever get one.
If you end up like this poor woman at least without a smart meter you can do various methods to get free electricty/gas – with a smart meter its a lot harder.
If you thinks its unethical, your opinion, just remember various policies ban wood heating meaning many people have no alternative
Since when are you supposed to heat your whole house?
I’m putting plans together for vanlife because renting my shitty flat and keeping it heated is too expensive, it’s the end times ppl!
Ah yes, the Tories are well on the way to creating the old workhouse regime and moving social advancement back 100 years. It’s always easy to see when Tories have been in power too long.

I’m working in China in an area with perhaps 2 months of “winter”, which means 3-8 degrees centigrade most days. Virtually no one has central heating, a fireplace or anything to heat the house (a place warmer at most) so we just use and extra duvet and wear an added layer inside. Obviously, if you’re looking at 4-5 months of required heating as in most of the UK, and the occasional dip into minus, that’s more of a hassle, not even mentioning the risk of burst pipes.
