Not really controversial. They’re DECADES away from approaching Man Ure or Liverpool. Or even Arsenal.
It’s only the last couple of years they’ve reached (and probably surpassed) Villa and Everton.
I don’t think it’s an unfair assessment. Sure, we run things at the moment, but United had two sustained periods of success with Busby and Fergie. With the latter, it happened at a critical moment with the formation of the Premier League and the English game exploding in popularity. Add in key elements like the Treble in ’99, Fergie’s Fledglings, the development of superstars like Beckham and Ronaldo, and you’ve got a recipe for a true dynasty.
I’m under no illusions about which team has had more success historically.
Clearly when city wins a treble and it’s barely mentioned ever by anyone.
He’s not wrong. Man City still needs another decades of success and trophies to match with the biggest english clubs historically.
But are they also in Liverpools shadow? If Man U keep doing like they’re doing now, the Fergie era will be so long past you have to wonder how history will see it. Liverpool had something similar happen despite having won a lot of stuff before 1990, and became a sleeping giant for a long while.

Lol what.
Always were and always will be
United don’t have a shadow anymore.
