*How dare you rule corporations that are used to do whatever they want in their country?*
> The representatives also took umbrage that large Chinese tech companies like Tencent, Alibaba, and Huawei weren’t included as gatekeepers, “despite the fact that they are competing aggressively with US firms in the EU and other markets.” This, however, belies a misunderstanding of how DMA gatekeeper status is awarded.
> Under the DMA, gatekeepers have to achieve a certain annual turnover in the European Economic Area, or provide its core platform services to at least 45 million monthly active users and more than 10,000 yearly active businesses during the last three years. Tencent, Alibaba, or Huawei are unlikely to meet that threshold in the EU.
Chinese tech companies should be under the same scrutany as the bigger us ones
Europe is not targeting American tech companies . It just seems that way because we have so few of our own.
Is he talking about; Amascam, Google, Meta? Let them first pay theirs taxes!
He can fuck right off. Americans and their leaders are more than welcome to let their corporations fuck over their citizens, but not ours.
EU bureaucrats have created [awful environment](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fknt4dj15xfx81.png) for local tech that barely grows and now they try to make it worse for others. There’s a whole class of people that are completely detached from the real world and how the products and services are made. Yet they are guaranteed income that is derived from other people’s productivity, and they also “regulate” things that they have no idea how they work.
*bro just give me one more regulation bro. One more regulation will fix it. I swear bro*
I guess that was bound to happen at some point
When american tech giants will stop the ‘unfairly’ targeting of EU customers they will be left in peace.
Don’t worry, Europe is targeting all companies equally, even European companies are under attack. Running a business here means spending more time with useless papers than actually working.
Big Tech in every part of the world thinks “it’s” right!
People are important!!

Oh, no, won’t the big bad EU think of the poor American corporations!
“How dare you make up your own laws in Europe that our mega corporations dont like? You will bow down to our corporate overlords and you will like it!” – Biden
Yeah but when Europeans say that his inflation reduction act is attempting to suck companies out of Europe than its:”you can do the same”
So USA: You can do just the same
They are sad because they use those tech companies to spy on people all over the world
Maybe señor senile should take a hard look at all these corporations wreaking havoc on society by facilitating unseen amounts of hate, misuse and disinformation.
Since the dogshit American congress can’t regulate anything we have to rely on the EU to get some rules crafted.
If it wasn’t for the American Big Tech companies, many tools that folks like us use on daily basis wouldn’t exist. I’d love to have an European version of Google, Apple, Meta… Where are they?
American tech? As in the trillion dollar companies selling data and overall treating consumers like peasants? Oh no leave them alone EU why are you picking on America
Polarisation everywhere.
As an American, grow a pair
Tencent, Huawei and co are not targeted? Get out of here… They have been banned from European telco companies.
Even Chinese manufacturers like Lenovo, Oneplus and Oppo has been banned from sensitive premises at some of my customers. Dell, HP and co have not…
Boo-hoo-fucking-boo. Start applying GDPR when you do business with EU, period. BTW, seeing how California is strengthening privacy with their CCPA, they better start caring more about the privacy of their users.
When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.
This is mainly because the US looks differently towards monopolies and consumer rights than the EU. This has nothing to do with the EU “bullying” US tech firms.
If it wasn’t for Linux, originating in Europe, and the following open source community – half of those tech companies wouldn’t even exist…
Biden and the EU literally raised relative pipsqueak ireland’s corporation tax to stop Ireland having an “unfair advantage” over france/germany and the us.
Our internal strategy to attract foreign investment and jobs was too much for the worlds only superpower and the perennial industrial and economic powerhouse of central europe to contend with.
Personally, i think the ability to determine another country’s taxation rate is an unfair advantage, but what can ya do about the us and the eu (nothing)
That’s rich
With a shrinking global share of the economy, brain drain, budget deficit, and folding retirement plans across the EU, the EU should consider investing in innovation as opposed to regulation.
It missed out on trillions from the web boom and has also decided to miss out on trillions from AI. The EU has created zero prospects for technology in its economy but people gladly cheer shit like this on.
No. It’s totally fair. Corporations shouldn’t just get a free pass to do whatever they want wherever they want.
Unfairly? They are lucky the EU has been super soft on all of their corporate-dystopia export.
Apple, Meta/Facebook, Alpha/Google are all evading taxis like crazy, and violate peoples privacy like there’s no tomorrow.
