  1. Trump asked SCOTUS to slow Jack Smiths petition to them about “Trump immunity”.

Jack Smith definitely does not agree.

    > Special Counsel Jack Smith called Thursday for the U.S. Supreme Court to make an “immediate, definitive decision” on whether former President Donald Trump has “immunity” from criminal prosecution that would negate the historic charges slated for federal trial in March.
    >
    > “The public interest in a prompt resolution of this case favors an immediate, definitive decision by this Court,” the special counsel wrote in an 11-page reply brief that came in response to Trump’s lawyers urging the justices to stay out of their dispute over immunity — for now.
    >
    > Smith’s team countered that the Supreme Court needs to get involved now.
    >
    > “The charges here are of the utmost gravity,” the special counsel’s office wrote. “This case involves—for the first time in our Nation’s history—criminal charges against a former President based on his actions while in office. And not just any actions: alleged acts to perpetuate himself in power by frustrating the constitutionally prescribed process for certifying the lawful winner of an election. The Nation has a compelling interest in a decision on respondent’s claim of immunity from these charges—and if they are to be tried, a resolution by conviction or acquittal, without undue delay.”

    > Smith’s office argued that the Supreme Court’s handling of United States v. Nixon supports the argument for taking up highly consequential cases early and expediting proceedings. In that landmark case the Supreme Court addressed the controversy of whether the president had a constitutionally-based privilege to withhold evidence from trial, taking up the case four months before the trial of former President Richard Nixon’s alleged Watergate conspirators and resolving the case 16 days after arguments.

    > “Here, the stakes are at least as high, if not higher: the resolution of the question presented is pivotal to whether the former President himself will stand trial — which is scheduled to begin less than three months in the future,” Smith’s office wrote.

  2. We need justice in time for the election. Trump is not a king.

  3. Jack Smith is not fucking around. He knows what he’s doing. The shame of the whole thing is, if he’s successful in prosecuting Trump, he may never know a day of peace in this country again because of Trump’s lunatic followers.

  4. Trump 2016: Hillary must be investigated and charged for her crimes before the election! America needs to know if she’s a criminal before they vote!

Trump now: You can’t charge a candidate with stuff in an election year! That’s election interference!

  5. Part of what bothers me about the Supreme Court is their secret deliberations. Why do we not have a spokesperson who can respond and tell us exactly when we will have a decision on this and on the Colorado case?

In my field I have a standard process for customers to submit requests. I also have an expedited request process for emergencies. I abide by SLAs. I can’t just sit quietly while the customers wonder if I even received their request.

    Stop operating like it’s 1824.

  6. Yes please. One way or another we need the answer. If it’s yes Biden gets to go to town. If it’s no we can start the shit show from his idiot followers. They will be dealt with. But it is going to suck for a while.

  7. SCOTUS will either screw over Trump or give Biden ultimate immunity.

  8. It’s fairly obvious once the Supreme Court takes on this decision they will say presidents are not immune from prosecution.

  9. Now to see if the people who wrote the Constitution will see the checks and balances they wrote about work.

  10. Yes, hurry up and decide on this and if they take up the CO ballot appeal.

  11. What stops the Supreme Court from saying no now to not give Biden anymore power then turning around and flipping their decision if Trump or any Republican gets elected?

This decision can’t sit on the whims of 5 people.

  12. They better act fast or McDonalds might make it a moot point.

  13. I wonder how Justices Ginny Thomas and Harlan Crow will rule on this

  14. Yes, President Biden needs to start asserting his new powers ASAP.

  15. If they don’t rule well before the election

    OR

    They rule he IS immune

What are you going to do? Because this goes beyond a constitutional crisis. It strikes at the very heart of our nation’s system of governance. It means we have a king. Furthermore, if this happens then I guarantee you we won’t be having an election. We will be having a coronation followed by autocracy of the unitary executive and/or open warfare as the union desolves.

Putin and Xi are waiting and watching.

  16. I’m sure that Alito and Thomas have already found quotes from Torquemada, Vlad Tepes, and Adolph Hitler to justify their ruling that Trump is not only eligible to run, but already has won.

  17. This was an actual court filing that has a non-zero chance of being granted .

“Calls on” should be reserved for those pointless stories where one person impotently “calls on” someone else to resign or appologize or some other thing that they can’t actually effect the outcome of.

  18. You’d think Trump would want a quick decision too. Or, of all people, the AG of Alabama. Hmm

  19. If the Supreme Court says he has immunity they would be anointing the US president as a king. If the President is above the law then our entire system crumbles. I cannot see even that stacked court coming to the conclusion that a president is above the law. It would effectively eliminate the judicial branch’s check and balance on the executive branch of US government.

  20. I’m happy that he knows that his case will require a supreme court ruling and is getting it ahead of the trial.

  21. Wait… if they don’t rule against Trump, then Joe Biden could do the same thing Trump did?
