Of course they have, this is what Tories do. something really stupid, people tell them it is really stupid so they panic and doing something else stupid, and then panic again, because they are cunts, and there is no cure for being a cunt.
‘another half thought through idea to placate the hardliners ( far right morons ) on their own back benches’
Lmao yeah, least surprising thing ever. A brief moment of pretend in a select media window, then back to routine. Migration in the region of 500k-1m is the new normal. Tories know it, are fine with it, as are their soon to be replacements. Nothing can stop it. Sit back and enjoy.
the more shocking revelation from this is that 70% of workers don’t earn £38k
They did their performative action where they get in the headlines in an attempt to convince your average oblivious voter that they are the party of anti immigration and to get outrage from the left to further support this, when in fact they are the most pro mass migration party to ever exist. You cannot over emphasise how much they love it, I mean 1.2n migrants entered the country last year, and I see people calling them Nazis. Anyway, try and get a house that isn’t a new build ASAP because we are only about 10 years behind Canada and a housing crisis on their level. I don’t think people realise just how bad it’s going to get, we’ve become a welfare state for the world and it’s going to destroy us
They only said £38k to make £29k look acceptable. Same tactics as Trump and others often use: presenting an offer/idea which most people considered extreme and which will be eventually rejected. Then the follow up offers
/ideas will seem much better and ‘less extreme’ albeit still as bad.
The crazy thing is how blind and out of touch with reality these people are not to foresee the backlash they were going to get over this. Such a dumb, cruel idea that had no upside to it.
The original spouse visa process is very expensive anyway but I do understand the 18,000 a year being too low nowadays. I’d expect like 25k or 30k max but almost 40k is fucking crazy. A lot of professionals with actual skills can’t earn that until way into their careers anyway so it will just turn away the people we not only want but NEED.
A post doc outside London doesn’t even necessarily fit this salary.
They’ve been attacking Higher Education since Thatcher but they won’t pay for researchers to do work into covid or anything? One of the biggest exports UK has is education.
Way to prove lack of economic understanding guys.
I use my specific industry because I work there.
There are many industries that have also been inappropriately impacted with no idea of what it means. Off the top of my head I wonder how trade professionals count given they won’t have set income per annum.
They’re so incompetent on basic stuff, not to mention potential impact…
Also, how many bonuses have directors of state supported companies got recently from failing companies. I’d advise to review last 10 years.
The most disappointing thing with this is that they’re so thick they don’t even realise how their policies cause negative economic impact even to the rich people.
Has this government ever announced anything that they’ve then actually seen through?
Everything seems to either get forgotten about, U-turned or ends up being completely unworkable and/or illegal.
Who’d have thought ivory Tower motherf*ckers didn’t understand the pay structure in the UK.

Funny how every article uses “climb down” or “row back” rather than U-turn. Feels like newspapers carefully choosing words
