Just one of many stories like this this year, so frustrating to watch many things worsen in this country with (socio)political, economic etc situations that feel hopeless.
We need to end this culture of people having children they cannot afford, then feeling entitled to have everyone else bankroll them for their bad decisions. Freeloading off of taxpayers who are getting taxed to death for next to nothing in return. This and the change from central to local government having to foot the bill for children in care is probably why councils are going bankrupt.
They should see what it’s like in countries where there are no handouts. What would they do then with no one to call up as if you are owed a service you’ve probably barely paid into? It is a messed up society when you do not get any help based on what you put in, it’s all reserved for those who contribute nothing. Be a feckless parent then you will be more deserving apparently. Will teach their child to continue the cycle, while the rest of us graft for worser services and higher taxes.
And where are the fathers? The rest of the family? If you have no family to help you to the point where you are struggling so much in your home town apparently, then why do you need to stay in London, the country’s most expensive city? For work when you aren’t working? Why not go live somewhere more affordable then work your way back if that’s your goal, as other single mothers did?
To be fair this mother seems like she has a good head on her shoulders, not even among the worst but it’s sad to see people not engage in basic family planning. Failing that, not figure out how not to be a net drain on society,: ideally focusing on how to instead become self-sufficiently productive.
That said, in the video they did, her reaction when they eventually offered a council home… She turned her nose up at it – did not meet her high standards. How many people are homeless and would have been grateful? Complaining about a hotel – would the street suit these people better?
In the background of the problems these parents cause amid limited resources, can’t wait for it all to get worse for the rest of us while landlords keep landlording and everything else…
>Long-term hotel usage in the borough has risen sharply in the past year. Enfield Dispatch reported this month that 113 families were being kept in hotels or B&Bs by the council past the six-week legal limit by the end of March 2023, up from one family in April 2022.
Sounds like there’s a huge amount of demand for housing coming from somewhere, some people who by their defined status are deemed as vulnerable.
>The council has said keeping families in hotel accommodation is costing it about £850,000 a month
Something I said would happen has happened.
Even with this information I’m sure we will still see people saying we can house the entire world tomorrow and the next day.
Stories like this have been doing the rounds for 20 years.
Before everyone started hating on immigration and trans women, it was benefit scrounges. It’s all a distraction.
Even £850,000 a month is peanuts next to theft and corruption at the top levels of of our government, where literally billions are wasted or just stolen every year, money that could house every individual in the country or eliminated all poverty.
But you’re angry at single mums who have nothing.
End the tory right to buy free lotto bonanza
Start building houses!
As ever, poor parents are more relatable n thus easier to blame for everything, that wealthy fucks who stole millions or billions from us all.
As much as I weirdly enjoy stating in budget hotels, I cannot imagine living in one. Warm? Safe? Sure. But it’s not a “home”. Not even close. Not to mention the lack of room.
