BA stops passenger flying after claiming ‘UK passports expire after nine years’

  1. It’s sad that British Airways has become a budget airline, complete with budget airline quality customer service, trading under the brand of a respectable national airline.

  2. I dont get the article. Clearly someone at check in/boarding made a mistake as 9yrs has never been a thing. There is enough staff that surely someone realised the passport is valid?

  3. Assuming 100 folk on the plane, and passport life of 10 years presumably another 10 folk were likely in the same position?

    Some might even have had shorter life on their passports.

    There must have been thousands of travellers going through the airport every day with <12 months on their passports going to Europe

  4. Many countries wont let you board a plane if your passport will expire in the next 6 months. As such, I’ve heard it colloquially that passports essentially expire after 9 years, because if it reaches that 9.5 year mark while your overseas, you are gonna be in shit.

  5. I’ve had my fair share of trouble with other flag carriers but BA is definitely the worst.
