  1. Never seen one in my home city, but I have in Bristol. IIRC they made it’s presence a feature.

Cat + beer + newspaper crossword? Excellent.

  2. Yeah there’s at least one pub in St Albans with a cat

  3. The Nags Head pub in Edale, Derbyshire had a pub cat back in the 1990s. Spent the evening there next to the fire with it curled up on my lap one night.

  4. Seen a few over the years, but I’d bet that most would be in a quiet corner having a nap in busy pubs.

Most I’ve seen have been in country pubs where they have more space to roam, come and go as they please and a bit less hustle and bustle of a city pub.

  5. Pub animals of various kinds are a thing, but mainly I just wanted to say welcome to our shores, it’s lovely to have you here.

  6. A friend who enjoys both pubs and cats was gifted a book listing pub cats of London, think he’s visited quite a few of them by now

  7. Yes lots of pubs do I also know of a pub that used have a parrot that was keen on calling people bastards

  8. I’ve seen pub cats that live at the pub but never one that’s visiting!

  9. There’s a pub near the border of North Yorkshire and Cumbria that used to have pub lambs resting by the fire. Only pub cat I ever met was at The Free Trade Inn, Gateshead.

  10. Yep, my Mrs works at local vets, they have a practice cat who has freedom to come and go, he often ends up in the pub next door for pets and treats.

  11. We take our cats to the local pub on a harness and lead, to much enjoyment of all

  12. Yeah pub cats definitely are (or were) a thing.

My advice is: *show some respect to that cat.* Every pub cat I have ever encountered has no problem whatsoever with making its opinions very clear.

  13. Looks like a customers pet rather than the pub cat

  14. Pub mogs aren’t as common as pub dogs but they’re often just chilling out on the bar or somewhere high-up where they can keep a stern eye on the patrons.

  15. One of my local pubs has a sign on the door specifying that both cats and dogs are welcome.

  16. That looks like a travel cat to me. Lead trained since a kitten they go for walks, travel on trains and can go to the pub quite happily. I’ve met a few travel cats and honestly if I could have I would have trained my cat but he was way too old when rescued to lead train as they have always seemed super chill and adventurous.

  17. It’s definitely a thing, the Pub Cat, but becoming rarer. Well done on finding one in the wild. In my experience they’re normally very social cats, who don’t mind the occasional ape minion giving them scritches.

  18. Lots of places have cats. Our local Asda has a cat with his own Facebook. Jerry the Asda cat.

  19. My (NW/Central Lincolnshire) local has a pub cat which does not belong to the pub. It wanders over from the house opposite and chances its, erm, leg on getting favourable attention and tasty morsels from diners. It is a tabby of unknown gender.

  20. Our local used to have a pub parrot called Popeye. He learnt to mimic the cellar door and the main door of the pub. He also learnt some of our names and would say “Hello Les” when the bar staff left the room so that they had to run back and serve an invisible person!

  21. The Shakespeare pub in central London has one. Keep’s itself to itself

  22. My local is owned by a small local brewery who only own a couple of pubs. Often the owner of the brewery will visit the pubs on an evening and his cat follows him around. It’s the only cat I’ve ever seen that will kind of walk to heel.

  23. The Bag of Nails is known as the cat pub in Bristol. Lots of cats on their socials if you wanted to check them out but weren’t local.

  24. the pub where I work has a pub cat, bruce! he is my supervisor & is crazy about dreamies lol he is 100% good boy 🙂

  25. One of my favourite pubs had a pub cat named Pubcat. Pubcat simply wandered in one day and never left, ending up with his own reserved table and seat at the bar.

Sadly Pubcat’s pub has now closed down so I’m having to look for a new pub with a resident pub cat.

  26. It’s quite rare, but taking your cat for a walk/having them as emotional support animals is more common now so hopefully they’ll become more of a feature of British pubs!

A lass here brings her ginger Maine Coone (Henry) to the cafe with her every week. He takes up an entire sofa and sits quietly judging people while also demanding pets. Henry is awesome.
