Hopefully you guys don’t legalize weed, the price will go through the roof.
“And with that, a mighty cheer went up from the heroes of Ireland. They had banished the awful cheap drink forever . . . because it was haunted. Now let’s all celebrate with a cool glass of turnip juice.”
How much is a slab in NI?
The booze cruise to Jonestown is back.
Booze cruise to Holyhead just became a whole lot more interesting with Duty Free prices. €13 for litre of vodka.
Its prohibition, Father Jack will be bootlegging across the border, the British will not be looking for arms but booze under his seat cushions.
And congrats to Sinn Fein for making sure the same minimum alcohol pricing will be in place in the north from next year!
Be aware this got multi party support. They all wanted it in, even the opposition. Don’t let any of them get away with it. It’s a law to help the vintners…. Not the alcoholics.
All that driving is gonna effect their CO2 goals….bet they didn’t put that in their calculations.
The stupid thing is this is going to make people turn to bottles of Vodka for €25. I really don’t understand Irelands backward approach to alcohol abuse.
Its normal in Killarney to have kids opening drinking in the streets with the cops doing nothing or even investigating how they got the alcohol in the first place
Fine Gael are clearly not happy with the amount of profits gangs from NI are getting from FFG’s war on drugs. Hopefully this will help, one man’s habit is another man’s income.
The bloody government couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery
>[The majority of this research clearly supports the view that increases in the monetary prices of alcoholic beverages… significantly reduce alcohol consumption… Moreover, several studies have concluded that these reductions in consumption are not limited to the infrequent, light, or moderate drinkers but also pertain to frequent and heavy drinkers… Furthermore, increases in price also lead to reductions in many of the consequences of heavy drinking… Given this evidence, increases in the prices of alcoholic beverages appear to be an effective policy for reducing alcohol consumption and its consequences.](https://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/arh26-1/22-34.htm)
Surely this won’t work? Alcoholics will still drink, the only difference is that their children won’t eat tonight.
Students are still not going to want to be sober, they can’t afford the alcohol so they’ll just take more drugs.
For the rest of us who do still want to drink, then why would we responsibly drink beers or ciders for €40, if we want to drink, the only option is spirits.
Its not intellectually honest to compare price hikes in the form of excise taxes on under 21 years old drinkers in the US in 1982 and 1989 and a whole country of people and say they would be affected the same and have the same sensitivity to price.

All parties voted in favour of it though….
MUP was brought in for a reason….
