  1. TL;DR:

    * In April 2024, [California fast-food workers](https://www.businessinsider.com/panera-bread-workers-exempt-from-california-fast-food-pay-increase-2023-9?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=insider-economy-sub-comment) will get a nearly 30% pay bump to $20 an hour.
    * Fast-food chains like Chipotle say they’ll raise prices to offset higher labor costs in the state.
    * A Pizza Hut franchisee plans to lay off 366 delivery drivers in February at 72 California stores.

  2. Sounds like they weren’t properly paying workers if they have to lay off so many workers to meet this standard.

Glad the remaining workers will be properly paid and I hope the rest find a new endeavor soon.

And I hope Pizza Hut makes sure to serve quality pizza to retain customers but we all know they’ve already cut those corners right off. Good luck being able to charge more with a crappy product.

  3. You can’t force firms to pay more for something than the value of it’s contribution to the bottom line.

Progressives never learn – businesses can’t be forced to act like socialists.

  4. We got an issue we at the point where jobs aren’t keeping up with inflation mon wage gonna be 20 dollar an hour average rent gonna be 3 k

  5. Or make better pizza.

Some of these companies make a horrible product and then are shocked when the public finds something better.

  6. Big Mac index. Denmark $21/hr. [maybe more now] take home $12. 4 weeks paid vacation [mandatory] , national healthcare strict work/hour regulation.

America $12/hr. take home $9, no paid vacation, no healthcare, little work/hour regulations.

    Denmark Big Mac $4.59. America $4.79 !!

I call that capitalist greed. What do you call it ?

PLUS, there was a time when nobody delivered food until Little Caesars and Dominos brought it back. So Pizza Hut throws in the towel…fuck Pizza Hut.

  7. COL is much higher in California as compared to the rest of the country.

Not sure why most are being so negative about this.

Corporations have been posting record profits.

Min wage in my city is set to be $17.55 next year , anyway.

$20hr isn’t that much more. Most min wage jobs already pay 18-20 starting.

Pizza Hut prob wants people to go in-store in order to cut some overhead and drive traffic to their stores

  8. Just need to prevent stock by backs, force employers to keep raising employee pay with the cost of inflation and productivity before paying shareholders, then prevent executives obtaining bonuses if they do any sort of layoffs. Thats when shit will actually change and you wouldn’t need to increase min wage.

  9. This Christmas season I have seen the most layoffs both first hand and reading about that I can remember in the past 10 years…

  10. What is even better is now unskilled workers will be making as much as skilled workers! I mean great getting an actual skill when you could get a less stimulating job working elsewhere.

I’m not trying to poo on fast food workers. The fact is that it is unskilled so now everyone will be equal .. why bother bettering yourself?
