An obvious handball in the box during the Villa-Sheffield match waived away by the VAR and the referee, gesturing it was off the Sheffield United defender’s shoulder.

Replays clearly show it came off the inside of the Blades player’s arm around his elbow, as he clearly swung his arm and flicked the ball away from the Villa attacker.

Video (multiple angles) of the incident:

Am I the only one that felt that was a very 1984 moment from the officials?

What other Orwellian moments from VAR (and/or the referee) have we seen this season?

Edit: To be clear, this isn’t a ‘conspiracy’ thread. I think the bad decisions we are seeing are entirely because of incompetence.

This is meant to be a discussion of VAR and/or referee decisions that are seemingly completely in conflict with the video evidence.

  1. I don’t understand how Taylor is still refereeing ing PL after so many corrupted and bad whistles.

  2. The handball was quite clearly above his sleeve. Like, 100% clear a day not a pen

  3. You might need to google where elbow and shoulder are on the human body mate

  4. It’s interesting that all of the posts saying it wasn’t a handball are from Arsenal supporters.

  5. The action and movement made me think it was a pen at first. That said the replay showed it was on the sleeve which is technically no pen.

  6. Didn’t Villa get a dodgy decision in this fixture a few years ago that relegated Bournemouth and kept them up?

  7. What are the rules when it comes to hand ball? Because people here are saying it it’s on the sleeve it’s not a handball but Sky Sports said differently and I have not clue what is going on.

  8. Thought the officials got a lot wrong tonight. I don’t even know why I bothered writing that it’s just business as usual isn’t it.

  9. Let me get this straight….you’ve posted a thread about people not believing their eyes when they see things and then proceeded to try and convince everyone in the thread that the guys upper arm/shoulder is his elbow? Is this some sort of crappy social experiment?
