On r/De they‘re accusing r/Europe (or r/nuclear as they jokingly call us) of living in a different universe.
I think they’re right.
While it’s great that people are becoming more open to alternative sources of energy, it should be noted that, unfortunately, a lot of Poland’s planned reactors are the limited utility SMR designs.
Still find it weird how a country the size of Poland never built a NPP before. Especially when most of the eastern bloc countries did, even the smaller ones.
What drove this change?
What happened in 2019?
It won’t happen. The few companies that would be able to build it are highly in debt and will be completely occupied with mainting or replacing existing reactors. Factoring in the foreseeable construction time overruns and the pace of renewables, Poland will run on 100% renewables before such a plant is finished.
