*“This kind of attack is really hard to prevent,” Interior Minister Vit Rakusan said.”*
No criminal history and licenses for all of the guns? Yeah, *really hard* is an understatement. This demon simply spawned and slaughtered.
I mean, I own 8 guns. But I’m in Texas, so it’s all good.
(I haven’t taken one out of the house in years…)
No criminal record.
Legally owned guns.
Slipped through **which** cracks, exactly?
Most Americans own 8 guns by the time they’re 4
Wait, I thought America had mass shootings due to of our lack of social services & safety nets… turns out it’s just the guns. Weird.
Sometimes people start out in life with a full bag of marbles, but may end up losing a few marbles, or more, as they go along. And if that happens, society might have to restrict them from some activities that might be dangerous to themselves or others, like driving. But for some reason, in a lot of places, that does not seem to correlate with gun ownership.
Didn’t he post on social media in the run up to it talking about it?
If they check his health records, they might find something.
David Kozák passed their examinations and licensing process. He legally owned those firearms. Read the article, the school had him in good standing, the shooter was invisible because he didn’t a criminal record.
What’s left inferred in the article is the upcoming legal fight to reform their gun laws, implicitly databasing existing qualified citizens with firearms owned (registry is a precursor to confiscation), and transactions, including ammo, reported to the government.
What’s the process to stop him? Its not impossible. This shitbag did not suddenly snap one sunny day. Its going to be the most dystopic thing that would stop him, a total police state that includes monitoring a person’s social media participation.
This dude was inspired by other attacks, and I’m willing to be it was the other recent European mass shootings, and I’m including the Russian ones as well. You have disillusionment, indoctrination/recruitment, and a decision being made before planning even began. Everything from Twitch to Telegram could have been a recruitment vector. It was. Direct quotes from his Telegram:
>”I hate the world and want to leave as much pain as possible.”
>
>”I have a ringing in my ears … like some kind of f–king fireflies. I wanted to rip my ears out.”
Everything is still being pieced together, even that father and infant son killed days earlier, a terrible event potentially done by the shooter, and of course the shooter’s father himself being found murdered. Holy shit, that’s a precursor event… that’s fucking training, not marksmanship, but the decision point to pull the trigger on a human being, to dehumanize them into a target. That’s a critical moment where the dude went out, did it, had time to ruminate and learn from it, and then plan and execute the larger public shooting. From a cold blooded perspective: this was a training run. Killing the dad on the way to Uni was probably simply ticking something off a final list.
Almost like how Americans do it!
Nothing will change until we start treating gun ownership as reason to be alarmed in the first place
Czech here, after this tragedy has happened there has been classic internet and politic war about gun control. There has also been few individuals commenting about how emergency services reacted. Also how media covered it.
Let me be perfectly clear.
We have some of the best gun control laws, how services handled those situation was absolutely spot on, there is literally nothing that could have been done, only to try lower the consequences as much as possible.
Gunman was one of the thousands of suspecs of two killings happening earlier that week. But there was no way to pinpoint it further.
From first message of a gunmans friend that he is about to commit suicide, to finding his shot dad to attack at the universtiy and his death it took just about 3 hours. Police were at the scene of shooting literally within minutes and it took about 15 minutes from first shooting to elimination. Police handled it absolutely brilliantly.
There is literally nothing to do or nothing to change but to mourn. Anyone using it for politics now is bloody monster. There also been some newspaper media literally printing the gunman on the roof on first page. Its disgusting.
I have read that in most situations you are better off without a gun because your assailant could get it from you and use it. Also, cases like this, also kids accidentally shooting themselves or others, also people with treatable depression who would have been ok if not their access to a gun.
I don’t see a reason compelling enough. If the government goes rogue, no guns are going to stop it. That’s my take.
