  1. > but developers said they should not be the only ones responsible for the costs

They are the ones who put them up, but of course they should not be held responsible for using unsafe materials, especially when they have often been done against the original specifications.

Let them try to claim the backhanders from the building inspectors all by themselves.

  2. They should, along with material supply companies, also compensate people who have had to pay thousands and come close to bankruptcy to cover the costs they have forced to shoulder as a result of developer negligence.

  3. They build the places on the cheap, yet expect the owners of the flats to pay for them to correct their fuck ups. Jesus.
It’s like me buying a car and the wheels falling off after a week, because they used plastic lug nuts to save a few quid….oh yeah sorry about that. We’ll happily repair it but it’ll cost YOU £500″.

My dad lives in a place build by Persimmons. Imagine this; they made a BILLION pound in profit a couple of years ago. It turns out that the building he resides in and has owned for 10 years, was built without any fire proofing. Literally ait between walls. The roof leaks already and the render went mouldy because they used the wrong (cheaper) stuff. They’re repairing it, but at a cost of £100,000 for the entire block.
But that’s OK because if you bung enough money to the tories they let you get away with murder (literally in the case of grenfell).

  4. Remind me again, just how big a proportion of conservative party donations are paid for developers? clue – it’s circa 25%. What’s the betting that they could write off the costs incurred against tax?

  5. Probably followed up with a private email saying “Take your time, by the time you guys start a scheme all these plebs will be bankrupt. No worries. Gove”

Never mind fixing the problem, they should be paying massive compensation for it
