People tend to forget about what happened just 1.5 year ago especially if it’s something awful. People always do. There’s nothing totally bad in this: it is just human psyche. But I think, nobody should forget about the tradegy of Mariupol. It is still the worst and the most tragic part of the war.
Mariupol had a population of around 500 thousand people before the war. It had the standards of living better than in Kyiv. Mariupol used to be fully russian speaking place and the residents of mariupol were mostly ethnic Russian.
On 24.02.22 putin opened the war. He called it a “special military operation to denazify and demilitarise Ukraine” and he also wanted to protect ethnic russians living in Ukraine.
The siege of Mariupol began on Februar 24, 2022. Mariupol was blocked from all sides. 500 thousand people were blocked there. Russia used the illegal weapons bombing Mariupol. There were a time with no grass in Mariupol: the grass was destroyed by the fire and chemicals (?). A lot of people died in the first hours of the war. On March 1, 2022 a big part of Mariupol already looked like the apocalypse movie. In Mariupol you could literally smell the death: when russian illegal bombs destroyed a house, everyone inside burned alive. The ruins of the house smelt like a fried meat. Literally.
People could not leave Mariupol. The city was blocked from the all sides. Everything they were left is try to hide…
The AZOV battalion was defending Mariupol all this time. 2500 soldiers were fighting the whole russian army. They are heroes forever. They must never be forgotten.
At the end, Russia totally destroyed Mariupol. It used to be a big developed city.. But only ruins are left now…
We still don’t know how many people died there. And I assume we already will never find that out. The official says, over 25 thousand.
According to the size of the city, the population and the scale of destruction, over 200000 died there. A half of the city.
The tradegy of Mariupol MUST NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. NEVER
