Despite all the “Ukraine can’t win” or “Failed counteroffensive” news, the reality is much bleaker for Putin than many people realize and much better for Ukraine.
The war costs Russia huge amounts of money. Just the cost of the equipment lost in the war is now getting close to $40 billion, if you add up the cost of actually being at war – salaries, compensation to dead/wounded, ammo spent, fuel etc. you are getting to numbers close to $160-170 billion. That is more than the annual budget of Russia. Now add the economic cost, e.g. Gazprom did not make a huge profit only the 2nd time in it’s history and is now valued only about $41 billion, compared to $120 billion pre war and no bottom in sight. And many many more companies in similar situation.
Now with talks about using seized Russian money abroad it could become even more painful for Putin to continue the war. And with funds being diverted to war, at some point the population will realize that the price they pay will be too high. Pensions will be difficult to finance, subsidies for things like natural gas, electricity, gas will no longer be affordable for the state, while there will be also lack of money for healthcare, maintenance of roads, railways and just so many other things. And unlike for Ukraine, there are no countries ready to help Russia finance their deficit.
Russia will simply go bankrupt after this war and that will come with their breakup into smaller countries, depriving the regime of funds from oil, gas and minerals. Only a matter of time.

If Putin wants a ceasefire it’s only so they can repair damaged tanks without the backlog increasing, move more ammo to the front and actually give their mobiks more than 72 hours of training.
