It’s so sad. HS2 could’ve seen a start of a boom in public transport.
We could’ve seen so much of our rail infrastructure potential be unlocked with HS2, but Tories just don’t know how to run a country unfortunately.
I don’t like Kier Starmer but at least he comes across as a serious person.
Cancelling HS2 to fill in potholes is peak Anti-Ambition Britain
We’ll be reeling from this decision for decades unless Starmer reversed and builds in full.
Scrapping HS2 is such a shame and a waste. High speed connections between major cities has shown huge economic growth in both and overall are hugely beneficial to the economy.
The issue was Tory mismanagement. They bowed to any slight resistance from influential donors and racked up huge costs diverting or taking the route underground. Not to mention the huge managerial waste. A competent and less corrupt gov would have got this done.
Cancellation of the rest of HS2 has been an unmitigated disaster by this Government
This is a massive scandal in the making. Probably another ‘Brexit benefit’ we are freed from the yoke of European cheap and reliable trains. We now have the sovereign right to pay over the odds to stand on a packed train. Flushed with the heart warming glow of knowing that our hard earned money is lining the pockets of the already wealthy and nothing is being invested for the public
But it will save people 30 minutes to get from Birmingham to “nearly” central London.
Buy up land around Aylsebury’s new station, quick! London’s newest commuter dormitory.
Remember that those increases will never go down.
Serious long term effects.
it’s frustrating that our public transport is becoming so dire.
I’m considering learning to drive and getting a car when seeing friends can be an £80+ return ticket on a cramped unreliable train.
I have no reason to drive for commuting as I work Hybrid and I’m happy to get the occasional bus, cycle or uber but intercity transport is so bad that I’d rather pay for the expense of having a car even if I use it once a month.
So I’m just going to end up adding to the congestion on our motorways and city streets because of the lack of focused funding and development.
There is no “reallocation” of HS2 money, it was borrowed for the specific work now cancelled- this money isn’t freed up its newly borrowed

[Now the true agenda is emerging](https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/hs2-station-at-aylesbury-could-justify-project-s-nasty-scars-left-in-herts-and-bucks/ar-AA1lubKj) as insiders jockey to cash in.
