Post Office Ltd are making funding cuts and have decided to close the Southall Broadway Post Office. Several years ago, there were over 300. Now there is only around 100 crown post offices left in the entire country. These post offices offer all the services, including self-service counters and booths. They are spacious compared to the small post offices located in shops, so they can accommodate a wheelchair. And they are conveniently located on a high street, along a bus route, which can be easier for the elderly to get to.

They are also the centre of the high street, next to the town hall. This particular branch had been integral to the community for over 50 years. The employees can speak multiple languages. As this particular area has a large ethnic minority population, multilingual services can be helpful to visitors and other people who may have difficulty speaking English. The postmasters are able to impart more knowledge than a sub-postmaster can, and can answer very specific questions a customer may ask.

This branch is very well-used and there’s almost always a queue (served quickly), which smaller post offices won’t be able to handle (only four in this large town). People also come to this branch from other areas, such as Ealing, Hayes, and Uxbridge, which helps increase foot traffic into the local businesses. The closure of this branch will have a detrimental effect on these local businesses. It will not only lead to job losses; it will lead to the downfall of an already-declining high street in a working-class area.

So please sign this petition to save the Southall Broadway Post Office branch, and write a complaint to Martin Edwards [comments@postoffice.co.uk](mailto:comments@postoffice.co.uk)! The public consultation ends on the 27th! Thanks.

  1. Your trying to make a business case for it staying when they’ve already done this themselves…

Clearly from financial standpoint its not worth it too them.

  2. We need the building for high price flat remodel. It will make the area better, and still ensure the building is preserved on the outside

  3. Post Office are sadly a disgrace and I think it’s probably time to say goodbye to them.

After well over a billion in subsidies from the government they’ve failed to make themselves in any way relevant to the modern age – or fun to use.

People don’t sent many letters. We also don’t send many postal orders, or telegrams, we don’t often withdraw our pensions in cash or pay our utility bills in cash.

I get that some people *do* still need to do those things, but you can’t keep a massive network of physical branches around just for that.
