  1. Russia’s communist party is taking an example from the US where septuagenarians and octogenarians are clinging to power

  2. “Russia’s Communist Party on December 23 nominated Nikolai Kharitonov, 75, to run against President Vladimir Putin in next March’s presidential election.

Kharitonov ran against Putin in 2004, receiving 13.7 percent of the vote to Putin’s reported 71.3 percent.

The announcement comes the same day Russia’s Central Election Commission blocked journalist Yekatarina Duntsova, who has called for peace in Ukraine, from running for president, citing alleged mistakes in her application to register as a candidate.

Putin is expected to comfortably win the election, as Moscow has for years removed opponents from elections and the political scene”.

  3. Can’t wait to tune into the presidential debates.

Do I need a VPN to access RT after the sanctions?

  4. Putin only allows non-credible threats on the ballot.
And even he seems to feel a 40 year old former journalist is too much of a threat.

Never take democracy for granted, if you are lucky enough to live in a nation having a functional one.

  5. Either dictator or communist? We all know the communist party is just the attempt at “worse than Putin” candidate. Hell I’m pretty sure if they ran a Nazi party it would get more votes and that’s the only reason they don’t.

  6. Has he decided what will be written on his gravestone already?

  7. Putin is 71… so age is definitely not a problem… in fact the only problem this guy has is that he is NOT Putin… hence he will, get his 13% and stays alive (this is first prize in Russian elections… staying alive)

  8. Communist Party….hahahahahahaha like it hasn’t been commie since Putin was in office. I dont care what label Putin party calls itself , Russia under Putin stillthinks the communist way. Putin former KGB he never left communist way of thinking.

  9. People opposing Putin tend to fall off of high places and die. Or get poisoned. Or their airplane blows up. This doesn’t sound like a good idea if he wants to turn 76.

  10. So, about the same age.

Why the emphasis on his age in the title?

  11. Putin will kill this man if he found he is threat to his presidency.

  12. Why do they even bother pretending when we all know its fake?

  13. Looks legit. Approved by Putin. True democracy, nobody can say now that it’s not a fair peocess.

  14. Please let him win (I know that is not possible because of the sham that is russian “elections”) and take russia back into communism. Murdering and starving their own people instead of Ukrainians.

  15. Younger then the US nominees at least.

Clearly Russias system is superior /s

  16. Unlike in the U.S. in Russia also younger candidates get a chance to run for president!

  17. I’ve always found it interesting that the word “conservative” has nothing to do with the left-right spectrum in politics. Technically communists are the conservatives of Russia who want to return to the days of yore.

  18. Ohh that’s clever….

They’ll make it seem like it’s a mirror image of Biden versus Trump.

I fully expect the GOP to copy everything Putin uses against this candidate in public speeches against Biden.

  19. Taking a page out of the USA booklet eh?

Why is it these dinosaurs are the ones to run for election, or are nominated to run for their parties?

  20. 75 years old? they could at least make it hard for the kgb to make it look like natural causes jeez
